Spike TV Tenth Annual Video Game Nominees

Awards season isn’t just about the film industry, video games also have their day. Come December 7, Spike TV will broadcast their Tenth Annual Video Game Awards hosted by Samuel L. Jackson. More of the obvious choices were nominated, including Assassin’s Creed 3, Halo 4, and Mass Effect 3. But there are some rather interesting choices in major categories that stir up the pot. See the full list of nominees after the jump.

Needless to say, social connectivity has blown up in the past few years and to make this an extra special tenth anniversary, Spike wants to make this VGA show extra interactive. Users will get to “play” the show as it happens on their Xbox consoles. Audiences will have the chance to respond to poll questions as they are incorporated into the show. Everything will be tabulated in real time on screen for the Xbox Live audience and users with Xbox Smartglass will have a second-screen experience that updates too.

The Executive Producer of the “VGAs” and Executive Vice President of Production for Entertainment Group, Casey Patterson, is super excited:

“This unprecedented partnership with Xbox will make ‘VGA TEN’ the biggest worldwide gaming event ever; we’re thrilled to be the first awards show presented on Xbox where our fans play every day. There is no more innovative producer than Mark Burnett to engage the fans on a whole new level in our big anniversary year.”

Microsoft’s Corporate Vice President of Interactive Entertainment Business, Marc Whitten, is also very anxious for the arrival of the awards show:

“Xbox makes your entertainment more amazing, and we can’t wait to team up with Viacom and Mark Burnett to make the VGAs the first-ever interactive TV awards show to be broadcast on Xbox LIVE. Our teams are working together to create a groundbreaking interactive TV experience that will turn VGA viewers into VGA participants.”

If all this interactivity goes as planned, think about the possibilities that could spark for future awards shows such as the Academy Awards, Grammys, and more. The future is now!
