Zachery Levi and his brainchild, The Nerd Machine, will be returning to Comic-Con 2014 with his 5th Annual Nerd HQ. From July 24 through July 27, Nerd HQ is once again taking over PETCO Park. This four day event will allow fans to hangout with fellow nerds and geeks alike while providing opportunities to meet their favorite stars in “Conversations for a Cause,” benefiting Operation Smile. Check out what’s new this year at Nerd HQ after the break.
Much has changed since Nerd HQ four years ago. At SDCC this year, Zachary Levi has partnered with SEGA of America, Maker Studios, Intel, Catan Anytime, and the all-mighty Facebook to provide interactive experiences to connect fans both at the event and at home with all the action. Previous “Conversations for a Cause” have included guests such as Tom Hiddleston, Joss Whedon, Seth Green, Stan Lee, Lucy Liu, Guillermo Del Toro, and many more. The full schedule will be released soon.
New this year is the official Nerd HQ App, designed to give the fans access to the complete schedule of “Conversations for a Cause,” Maker Stage events, parties, maps, and more. Also included are links to buy tickets for the panels, push notifications that will inform users of special events like the “Smiles for Smiles” photo opportunities and even a #hashtag feed for all #NerdHQ posts. Those who download the app are also eligible for various exclusive incentives and prizes only available to registered visitors. This app will be available for iOS and Android.
In years past, SEGA has always done their own thing with a little arcade for gamers to indulge in upcoming releases. But this time it will be a part of the Nerd HQ experience. Players can get their mitts on such titles as Alien: Isolation, Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA F 2nd, Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric, and Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal.
If you are unable to gain tickets to “Conversations for a Cause,” Maker Studios is also hosting panels and performances at Nerd HQ featuring discussions from various partners including Dodger, Stampylonghead, JonTron, Markiplier, Jesse Cox, The Game Grumps, CaptainSparklez, and Ninja Sex Party. KassemG and Amy Pham will also be in tow.
On the interactive front, Intel will allow attendees to create custom green-screen photos, a chance to win over $40,000 in prizes, and more. There will also be a gaming gallery so folks can play the digital version of The Settlers of Catan board game.
And how will Facebook be involved? Everyone’s favorite social networking platform will be unveiling a new activation; the Facebook Fan Question Station. Comments from the Nerd Machine page will be sourced and the FFQS will randomly select fan questions for talent to answer in the Nerd HQ green room.
Last, but not least, Nerd HQ will host their fan dance party at 9:00 pm on Thursday, July 24. All are welcome to boogie the night away.
San Diego Comic-Con 2014 officially kicks off on Thursday, July 24 and ends on Sunday, July 27.
