Aside from a slew of voice acting gigs f0r DreamWorks and Adam Sandler’s Grown Ups franchise, Chris Rock hasn’t made as big of a splash in Hollywood these days as he did in the nineties with his stand up and Saturday Night Live. Making his return as a writer-director-actor, Chris Rock’s Top Five looks to be his return to form. Watch the first trailer after the break.
I like the attitude that Top Five has going on here. It kind of reminds me of Judd Apatow‘s Funny People. From what I can gather form the trailer, this film comes from an honest place. The entertainment industry is tough work, and loosely basing this story off his own life, I feel as though moviegoers will gain the biggest impact.
Top Five looks like a really grounded and intimate story that I’m definitely looking forward to, especially with such a solid cast.

Here is the official plot synopsis for Top Five, courtesy of 20th Century Fox:
Pulsing with the rhythm of his greatest stand-up, Chris Rock’s TOP FIVE takes things to the next level, reveling in the high and the low, and blending a star-studded comedic romp with an irresistible romance. TOP FIVE digs under the surface of show business, politics, rap, and the exigencies of being black and famous todayÑholding it all up to the light in the way only Chris Rock can. Mingling echoes of Woody Allen and Dick Gregory with the energy of Kanye West and Jay Z, TOP FIVE is an original and radically new kind of American movie.
Directed by Chris Rock, Top Five stars Top Five, Chris Rock, Rosario Dawson, J.B. Smoove, Gabrielle Union, Sherri Shepherd, Kevin Hart, Cedric the Entertainer, Anders Holm, and Whoopi Goldberg. The film is set to be released on December 12, 2014.
