Showing a more intimate side to female athletes, every year Sports Illustrated invites a handful of renowned women to don the pages of its Swimsuit Issue. This year, the 2015 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue finds current UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion, 28-year-old Ronda Rousey, and championship-winning tennis star, 24-year-old Caroline Wozniacki, suited up in the pages of Sports Illustrated. They follow 2014’s chosen athletes, FIFA World Cup darling Alex Morgan, WNBA’s Skylar Diggins, and 2003’s Triple Crown Rookie of the Year, surfer Anastasia Ashley.
Including last year’s female powerhouses, Rousey and Wozniacki join the many talents of Olympic swimmer and gold medalist Natalie Coughlin, Olympic downhill skiing gold medalist Lindsey Vonn, tennis idol Maria Sharapova, IndyCar racer and spokesperson Danica Patrick, and two-time Olympic gold medalist Amanda Beard among others who have also been honored to grace Sports Illustrated’s Swimsuit Issue with their presence.
Shooting in South Seas Resort on Captiva Island in Florida, Walter Iooss Jr. had the pleasure of snapping Ms. Rousey’s photograph. Lucky for him she didn’t snap his neck. This is definitely a side of Rousey many have not seen before from the UFC champ. Rousey has made quite the name for herself recently outside the world of UFC. Last year she popped up in The Expendables 3, and this year we’ll see her in Furious 7 and in the Entourage movie.
