Netflix Delivers a Punishing DAREDEVIL Season 2 Trailer [69 Screenshots]

This Daredevil Season 2 trailer is pretty darn good. Why do I say it’s punishing you ask? Well not just because The Punisher is featured, but because we have to wait one more month until we are able to see these events play out. I want my Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) vs. Frank Castle (Jon Bernthal) now, dammit. Not a month from now. What’s even more frustrating is the fact that this is just Part 1 of a larger promotional tease. With the focus here on The Punisher, Part 2 promises the introduction of Elektra (Elodie Yung) into Hell’s Kitchen.

Based on the footage above, Marvel fans who missed the action of Daredevil in Jessica Jones should have their thirst for blood quenched. Frank Castle has always been a force not to be reckoned with. The man is practically a psychopath with the capabilities of a small army all packed into a single human. In 2004, Jonathan Hensleigh’s The Punisher did a fair job at telling Castle’s story, but not to the extent that shows the character’s more sadistic side – something the fan short film The Punisher: Dirty Laundry, directed by Phil Joanou, hinted at and brought to life. As much as I like Thomas Jane as Castle in the film and the short, I believe we’ll see a more ruthless and tortured Punisher from Bernthal that will complement the gritty world Drew Goddard has setup in this series.

Last month’s Season 2 teaser reintroduced the moral ambiguity of Daredevil’s actions to protect Hell’s Kitchen. And while Matt Murdock seeks to stop The Punisher, did you catch when Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll) suggest they created him. Either Karen actually discovers Daredevil’s true identity and implies Daredevil helped inspire The Punisher’s actions or it’s clever video editing to mislead us and she is simply implying that the bad behavior of Hell’s Kitchen has created The Punisher.

And if this Punisher-centric trailer wasn’t enough, the end is a nice segue into Part 2 which will debut on February 25, next week.

Extended commentary:

  • Looks as though Daredevil has his batons now attached together through cable/chains.
  • Is it ironic that The Punisher calls Daredevil a half-measure when the trailers for Season 2 are being presented in two parts?
  • Will the Kingpin return?
  • I wonder how many times Jon Bernthal is going to rub his head.

Just when Matt thinks he is bringing order back to the city, new forces are rising in Hell’s Kitchen. Now the Man Without Fear must take on a new adversary in Frank Castle and face an old flame – Elektra Natchios.

Meanwhile, Matt must balance his duty to his community as a lawyer and his dangerous life as the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen, facing a life-altering choice that forces him to truly understand what it means to be a hero.
