Brace your bank accounts, it’s time to see what’s Now Available to Own for the week of May 24, 2016. Every Tuesday we run down new movie and television releases that you can enjoy in the comfort of your own home. New on shelves this week are Zoolander 2, How to Be Single, Risen, The Finest Hours, and more.

Zoolander 2 Blu-ray Box Cover ArtZoolander 2 (Ben Stiller) Rated PG-13 [1h 42min] – Derek and Hansel are lured into modeling again, in Rome, where they find themselves the target of a sinister conspiracy. Starring Ben Stiller, Owen Wilson, Penélope Cruz, Will Ferrell, and Kristen Wiig

For someone who hasn’t drank the fandom Kool-Aid for Team Zoolander, I found its sequel to be enjoyable enough. Maybe it was my low expectations, but Zoolander 2 has a more mature sensibility to it that I favored over its predecessor. The film’s comedy has thankfully evolved with the times, but it’s still the same old Zoolander you know and love. However, the many cameos steal the spotlight at every turn, and Kristen Wiig is flawless.

As the movie tries to weave in Mugatu’s revenge, Derek’s attempt to reconnect with his son, and Hansel’s existential crisis, there isn’t enough connective tissue to bring all of this together to form a satisfying story. While I did, for the most part, find the film to be amusing to some degree, the issue I have with the narrative prevents me from truly caring about anything that is going on. I appreciate its effort as a comedy, but sadly Zoolander 2 is just mindless, meandering entertainment that works in small doses.

The handful of special features are OK. What sold me on the film is the fake advertisement for Youth Milk, so I’m glad to see that made it onto the disc. The story of Drake Sather and how he influenced what is now the Zoolander legacy is a pretty touching documentary. The other two features are standard, with the cast and crew talking about how enthusiastic they are about making the film and how they got to shoot in Rome.

Special features include:

  • The Zoolander Legacy
  • Go Big or Go Rome
  • Drake Sather: The Man Who Created Zoolander
  • Youth Milk
