‘Batman: Arkham Origins’ Storyline Revealed with New Concept Art

Batman Arkham Origins Story Details

It’s been a big month for Batman: Arkham Origins. As the title infers, players will be jumping back in time to relive the earlier moments in Batman’s career – before Arkham City and Akrham Asylum. Throughout April, Warner Bros. Games Montreal has slowly revealed various elements of the game. After the jump, learn how the comic series, Legends of The Dark Knight, inspired the studio to this particular era in Batman’s past.

There’s a lot of pressure being put on the shoulders of Warner Bros. Games Montreal. With Rocksteady Studios out of the picture, director Eric Holmes and writers Dooma Wendshcuch and Corey May are leading the charge into what may be the most anticipated game of the year. What they’ve created in the character is a less polished, semi-arrogant Batman who meets his match on Christmas Eve. With the Black Mask now revealed to be the central villain, how much will Batman mature to save Gotham?

When Arkham Origins was officially announced, it was revealed that this wouldn’t be an origins story nor would we see the beginnings of Arkham Aslyum. Holmes states that this is more about the origins of key relationships and moments in Batman’s life. Dooma also adds that the relationships we will see in Arkham Origins will strongly play to the strengths seen in Arkham Asylum and City. One of the key relationships in Batman’s life that we haven’t seen thus far in previous games is between Alfred and Bruce. The developers go into detail as to how Alfred will play a bigger role this time around:

It’s interesting that Dooma brings up that Batman will be heavily reliant on what he can extract and use from the people of Gotham, whether it be The Penguin or Alfred. We saw a lot of Batman’s detective work in Arkham City, so what more could Arkham Origins bring to the table? I also find Holmes inspiration behind Legends of the Dark Knight and Batman’s relatively fresh take on what he encounters intriguing. Exactly how far back are we going to go and what “firsts” will Batman encounter? Not having the knowledge that he had in the previous games, it will be notable as to how the studio will develop the character’s depth.

As the franchise ventures into Gotham, the theme of law versus justice has to play a much stronger role in Arkham Origins. I’m assuming he’ll have to avoid encounters with the Gotham PD as well as the organized crime. I just hope there won’t be some kind of Grand Theft Auto gameplay where Batman racks up awareness stars and has to shake the cops if he causes too much mayhem. That gets too old too fast.

It’s curious as to why Warner Bros. Games Montreal hasn’t revealed an official trailer yet. Typically, big announcements such as a new Batman game would warrant a grand, spectacular trailer. E3 is less than two months away, and it is highly speculated that we’ll see the first trailer and gameplay at the big show.

How do you like the story elements of Akrham Origins and what are you most looking forward to seeing when the game is finally revealed?

Batman: Arkham Origins will be available on October 25, 2013 for the Playstation 3, Xbox 360, Wii U and PC.
