10 Best Dressed of the 2014 Golden Globe Awards

10 Best Dressed of the 2014 Golden Globe Awards

The Golden Globes is one of the best awards shows, in my opinion, because it brings together the best stars from television and film. Awards season is the best because we get to see all of the A-list celebrities mingling on the red carpet for the next few months. Starting off with a bang, from Amy Adams to Bradley Cooper, everyone was dressed to the nines. After the jump check out the five best dressed men and five best dressed women of the 71st Annual Golden Globe Awards.

This year, so many stars NAILED IT with their looks that it was beyond tough to choose just five favorites. DRAMA was a huge theme when it came to dresses and suits. From dramatic reds, sparkly ensembles, and two-tone gowns, we saw it all. And I’m not just talking about the women, the men sure rocked the red carpet as well.

Ladies first:

Lupita Nyong’o in Ralph Lauren – For being her first major awards show, Lupita sure set the bar high! Lupita looked absolutely stunning in her Ralph Lauren Cape Gown. This gown was originally shown in Lauren’s Spring Collection at NYFW14. With such an extravagant dress, Nyong’o kept the accessories simple with some gold by Fred Leighton. The shoulder-to-shoulder sleeves accentuated Lupita’s slender silhouette, while at the same time, not drowning her with the gowns cape.

Emma Watson in Chistian Dior – DIOR PANTS! I really don’t need to say much more. Ms. Watson wowed us all with her dramatic and bold style. She pulled it off perfectly. From the front, Emma’s red Dior gown is gorgeous. The dress showed off the classiness we’re used to seeing from her with a high neck-line, flowing fabric, and short sleeves. Beautiful, but not much wow factor. And then you see it! Emma Watson paired black cigarette pants with the ensemble allowing for free movement with the thigh-high slits and back-less look. Not something you’d regularly see on the red carpet of the Golden Globes, but we were not complaining. She finished it off with a pop of unexpected color with a pair of violet Roger Vivier strappy heels and accessorized with one Dior “Mise en Dior” pearl earring on her left lobe. 5 Stars to Emma Watson.

Emma Roberts in Lanvin – Pulling off a lovely mermaid-shaped gown, Roberts was her naturally elegant self on the red carpet. With her blonde locks slicked back and pulled up, E. Roberts allowed us to appreciate her beautiful figure with an off-the-shoulder bodice. Throwing in some color, Emma’s blue chandelier earrings paired well. It is very easy for a plain black gown to fall short, but the mermaid hem and striking neck line did just the opposite for the American Horror Story: Coven actress.

Emilia Clarke in Proenza Schouler – Emilia stopped hearts in a drop dead gorgeous, black and white sweetheart Proenza. The conservative neckline was countered with a knee-high slit. Talk about classy. Daenerys completed the beautiful look with delicate black ankle wrap heels, a nude or cream box purse, gold domed cuffs and gold diamond earrings by Sidney Garber. She kept the look simple in the beauty department with a complementary center part and soft waves and nude make-up. And don’t you love her brown hair now?

Amy Adams in Maison Valentino – Not just the carpet was red. Amy looked incredible in her Maison Valentino two-tone red gown. Color-blocking was quite the trend at the 71st Annual Golden Globes, but Amy kept it safe by sticking to red tones rather than two completely different colors, like Sandra Bullocks gown for instance. She may have played it safe, but Amy still dazzled us all with her beauty. With a conservative up-do, our eyes were focused on her merlot bodice and plunging neckline. A round of applause to Amy Adams.

And now for the gentlemen:

Usher in Calvin Klein – With the combination of Usher’s oxblood tuxedo and matte black accents he definitely “made me wanna…” The two-botton notched, black label wool tux presented Usher sleek and cool demure. Paired flawlessly with a black bowtie, dress shirt and black leather dress shoes from Calvin Klein’s fall 2013 collection.

Leonardo DiCaprio in Jennifer Meyer – Leo was utterly suave and dapper in his black tuxedo. The Classic and sharp tux was accented by a pair of sharp cufflinks, black bowtie, and black dress shoes.

Bradley Cooper in Tom Ford – Nothing is better than a beautiful man in a black tux. Cooper graced the carpet proving that sometimes simplicity is perfection. It was probably smart of Bradley, though, to ditch the American Hustle perm.

Matthew McConaughey in Dolce & Gabbana – Talk about dramatic. McConaughey rocked not only a striking velvet jacket, but it was emerald green. The 3-piece tux contrasted well with the silky black lapels and a black bowtie. A brave and applauded move, not to mention a brilliant change among the sea of black we saw on the red carpet this year.

Channing Tatum in Gucci – Another simple black tux for Channing Tatum. Looking amazing with his gorgeous wife, Jenna Dewan-Tatum, on his arm, Channing proved not everyone has to wear a green velvet jacket to stand out. Opting for something less than traditional, Tatum chose to rock a black skinny tie rather than the ever popular bowtie we saw this evening. We have to give the new parents a 10 for their flawless attire.
