Warner Bros. Home Entertainment is proud to announce that The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug will be arriving onto various limited collector’s edition Blu-ray and DVD sets, as well as Digital HD on April 8. Along with a slew of unique collecter’s sets, The Desolation of Smaug comes with a hardy selection of special features that goes inside the making of the second part of The Hobbit trilogy. See what you can expect and more after the break.

I wasn’t a huge fan of The Desolation of Smaug myself when it first released in theaters, it was entertaining and fun, but it isn’t very true to the book or well directed. The action is monumentally better here than in An Unexpected Journey which makes Smaug a decent choice to watch in the comfort of your own home. However, I do feel the oomph of the dragon will be lost since he will be so tiny on television sets compared to the silverscreen. The animation and voice acting is still great.
