20th Century Fox released the second trailer for X-Men: Days of Future Past earlier today, giving fans a closer look at the war between Mutants and Sentinels. As Joss Whedon brought together The Avengers so spectacularly, Bryan Singer aims to do the same with his cast of X-Men along with Matthew Vaughn’s First Class X-Men. Can Professor X and Magneto look past their differences to save the future? Watch the all new trailer and check out 115 screenshots, along with an all new poster, after the break.
As the teaser trailer introduced the general idea of the story and how Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) is involved, this new trailer highlights more of the action and tension between Mutants and Sentinels. There isn’t much explained about the Sentinels from Boliver Trask (Peter Dinklage), but they are depicted to be a monumental threat in the scenes with the future X-Men. However, there seems to be a great conflict besides the Sentinels, which is the divide between a young Eric Lehnsherr aka Magneto (Michael Fassbender) and a young Charles Xavier aka Professor X (James McAvoy).
And for those looking for good old fashioned Mutant action there is plenty to eat up here. Almost every Mutant gets a moment to shine, from Kitty Pryde aka Shadowcat (Ellen Page) to a young Raven Darkholme aka Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence), everyone is seen using their powers. There is a great balance between future and past as Singer targets his high ambitions to please audiences of his X-Men films and Vaughn’s.
One more big push ought to do it for the marketing. We’ve seen a trailer focused on Wolverine’s journey and now we have the relationship between Magneto and Professor X, what I believe audiences on the fence really need to see is a trailer about the Sentinels and Peter Dinklage’s Trask. The last trailer should focus on the other side of the war, the human aspect. I am ravenous for this movie to release as soon as possible and I love everything they are showing. There are a lot of questions to be answered, such as Hank McCoy aka Beast (Nicholas Hoult) back in his human for, young Xavier standing, and what’s the deal with Pietro Maximoff aka Quicksilver (Evan Peters)?
