With less than two months to go, one more trailer for Michael Bay’s Transformers: Age of Extinction has arrived. Since the teaser trailer, we learned the presence of the Dinobots, led by Grimlock, would be the major draw to this summer blockbuster. As they continue to tease the great metal T-Rex, this new trailer finally reveals a little more details surrounding the plot.
I think franchise fatigue is definitely setting in. Although the movie ups the stakes by introducing the Dinobots and a band of evil humans, there just isn’t much of a wow factor that makes me feel like this is going to stand out among the rest of the franchise installments. I’m sure Michael Bay will bring us more action sequences that we have never seen the likes of before, but honestly, I want a Transformers movie with substance and depth. What I’m seeing feels hallow and on autopilot.
Honestly, I like the fact that they have kept the premise of the story and the rest of the Dinobots pretty hush hush – only Grimlock and Strafe have been shown – but I don’t even think the marketing team is trying anymore. They don’t really have to. Butts will find seats come opening weekend, but seriously, give us a hook more than just the Dinobots. Maybe we’ve just been privy to Constructicons and giant Transformer Dune-like creatures appearing in trailers for the previous films, but they are being very vague here. Hopefully that will make for a more positive experience in theaters because I’ll have little expectations going in.

The film begins after an epic battle that left a great city torn, but with the world saved. As humanity picks up the pieces, a shadowy group reveals itself in an attempt to control the direction of history… while an ancient, powerful new menace sets Earth in its crosshairs. With help from a new cast of humans, Optimus Prime and the Autobots rise to meet their most fearsome challenge yet. In an incredible adventure, they are swept up in a war of good and evil, ultimately leading to a climactic battle across the world.
Very, very vague. It doesn’t sound like it’s anything different than the last three movies. I think the trailer does the story justice enough without giving anything away. We’ll find out soon enough what the other Dinobots look like, what the evil humans’ intentions are, where the Dinobots come from, whose ships are attacking Earth, and what other surprises lie ahead.
Starring Mark Wahlberg, Nicola Peltz, Kelsey Grammar, Stanley Tucci, Jack Raynor, T.J. Miller, Li Bingbing, Sophia Myles, and Titus Welliver, Transformers: Age of Extinction hits theaters this summer on June 27.
