Box Office Battlefield: ‘Alice in Wonderland’ and ‘Brooklyn’s Finest’

Well it’s here, another epic to be thrown into 3-D and on the IMax screen. Are you ready? Probably. I’m sure there are tons of Johnny Depp and Tim Burton “fans” out there, but do we really know why we’re all going to see this movie? Yeah man, it’s so cool, “Alice In Wonderland” and Tim Burton man, yeah…… um yeah…………But hey, there is another movie out this weekend too, so which should you see?

Brooklyn's Finest

Brooklyn’s Finest

(Richard Gere, Don Cheadle, Ethan Hawke) In Brooklyn, New York, three veteran cops (Gere, Hawke, and Cheadle) struggling with their own personal and professional dilemmas dispatched to a notorious housing project, where they will each collide with destiny.

Opinion: Looks ok, not something great. Big name actors and Ethan Hawke is definitely making his way back into Hollywood. Not something dramatically inspiring, but has some potential. Rent It

Alice in Wonderland

Alice In Wonderland

(Mia Wasikowska, Johnny Depp)

19-year-old Alice (Wasikowska) returns to the magical world from her childhood adventure, where she reunites with her old friends and learns of her true destiny: to end the Red Queen’s reign of terror.

Opinion: Don’t expect this to be like the original story or it’s sequel “Through the Looking Glass,” but expect it as a different sequel after those. It is a twist of Tim Burton to put his own take on the story of course. Again taking an original tale and putting it in Burton land will get audiences all giddy, but does it deliver? Probably. Of course he just has to add his wife, Helena Bonham Carter and Johnny Depp as well. I’m not saying that this will be bad, but I just think all the hype is a little overrated. It looks whimsical and has a unique story, but not something that incredible as people are trying to make it. Check it out for sure, but don’t expect something brilliant. See it.
