Box Office Battlefield: Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Repo Men, The Bounty Hunter, and The Runaways

With Alice in Wonderland still on its rampage of 3-D kiddie destruction do any of the new films coming out this weekend stand a chance to over throw the juggernaut? There are many contenders yet are they worth your money?

The Bounty Hunter

The Bounty Hunter

(Jennifer Aniston, Gerard Butler) A bounty hunter (Butler) learns that his next target is his ex-wife (Aniston), a reporter working on a murder cover-up. Soon after their reunion, the always-at-odds duo find themselves on a run-for-their-lives adventure with a bunch of New Jersey heavies in pursuit.

Opinion: Jennifer Aniston seems to be in more and more movies these days, but her welcome is definitely getting worn out. RomCom after another, films like these are just becoming predictable and their stories a broken record. The Bounty Hunter looks ok, sort of funny, but nothing to spectacular to be something that you will remember. Rent It

Diary of a Wimpy Kid

Diary of a Wimpy Kid

(Zachary Gordon, Robert Capron, Rachael Harris) Greg Heffley (Gordon) uses the journal his mother forces him to keep to plot his middle-school survival.

Opinion: A fun new look into the lives of the young that could even give older folk a little chuckle in their tummies. This one will be hit or miss whether or not you allow this kid comedy to let you open up your sense of humor or not. It does seem like the kids act and have a little more adult situations than those of their age actually have, which might make it more mature than you may think. See it/Rent It

Repo Men

Repo Men

(Jude Law, Forest Whitaker, Alice Braga) Set in a world where artificial organs are readily available for purchase, a man (Law) who makes his living repossessing organs from those who fail to make their payments first finds himself outfitted with a new heart, then forced to go on the run when he falls on hard financial times.

Opinion: With health issues on the rise, why not take advantage of the tiring issue by making it into a ludicrous film based in the near future. This extreme health care business really takes care of business, but does the film do the same? No, probably not. Maybe some cool set pieces and a decent story to hold a little interest, but it’s just a flashy movie to draw you to the theater. Meh, Rent It

The Runaways

The Runaways (Limited Showings)

(Kristen Stewart, Dakota Fanning, Michael Shannon) A chronicle of the groundbreaking Los Angeles band The Runaways, who formed in 1975 and were led by teenagers Joan Jett (Stewart) and Cherie Currie (Fanning).

Opinion: Stewart and Fanning actually look like they have done a pretty swell job with taking on this flick. Although, Stewart is probably just playing her typical self with low emotion, drugged out, and blank face. This is actually an interesting story to be seen if directed well. Not for everyone, especially if yo don’t like the genre of music, but for those who do indulge in the punk rawk lifestyle this film could be one you don’t want to miss.  Rent It
