Box Office Battlefield: Chloe, Hot Tube Time Machine, and How to Train Your Dragon

The Spring season is upon us and more and more fun films are sprouting upon us. Take a dip, go back in time, and learn how to train your dragons because this weekend is full of some fun. What new films are worth your time and money this weekend, I’ll let you know!

How to Train Your Dragon

How To Train Your Dragon

(Jay Baruchel, Gerard Butler, Christopher Mintz-Plasse) Young Viking Hiccup Horrendous Haddock the Third (voice of Jay Baruchel) is sent to the Isle of Berk in the North Sea, where he is to subdue a dragon as a rite of passage.

Suggestion: This is Dreamworks growing up right in front of your face. Although all Dreamworks pictures generally have the tell-tale advice of believing in yourself, they take more of a visual approach to step up their game. Emotionally and visually this film looks like it would be something you should check out and Dreamworks has taken a page from Pixar’s book and finally hit some emotions. See It

Hot Tub Time Machine

Hot Tub Time Machine

(John Cusack, Rob Corddry, Craig Robinson) Four guy friends, all of them bored with their adult lives, travel back to their respective 80s heydays thanks to a time-bending hot tub.

Suggestion: As the title infers, this film goes straight to the point and doesn’t pull any punches. This film is going to be overlooked with its stressed out promotional campaign on TV that has probably gotten very annoying lately, but don’t let the annoyance fool you. This film will be hilariously fun and you will really enjoy this film. Two words, John Cusack, that’s the money maker right there. John Cusack in probably one of his most far out roles to date, and Clark Duke and Craig Robinson are also solid comedy actors. Do Not Miss This Film! SEE IT!!

Greenberg

Greenberg (Limited Theaters)

(Ben Stiller, Greta Gerwig, Jennifer Jason Leigh) A jobless New Yorker (Stiller) moves to Los Angeles in order to figure out his life while he housesits for his brother. He soon sparks with his brother’s assistant (Gerwig), a musician and somewhat of a lost soul herself.

Suggestion: Ben Stiller in a serious semi dark comedy drama? Sounds kind of like a skeptical combination, but I’m sure I’m not the only one who dislikes most of his films. This actually looks like it could be very good and Ben Stiller actually looks like he has a role that takes him somewhere emotionally that doesn’t make him look like a jackass; something actually worth your time. See It

Chloe

Chloe (Limited Theaters)

(Julianne Moore, Amanda Seyfried, Liam Neeson) A doctor (Moore) hires an escort (Seyfried) to seduce her husband (Neeson), whom she suspects of cheating, though unforeseen desires place the family in danger.

Suggestion: Anything with Amanda Seyfried and Liam Neeson is generally guaranteed to be well acted and decently entertaining. This drama looks kind of interesting and mysterious that leads into somewhat of a quality film. Don’t let the sex appeal fool you to draw you in because it probably won’t be too exciting, but it could turn to be a nice rainy day film; it won’t be a bust.  Rent It
