Darren Aronofsky and Russell Crowe Prepare for ‘Noah’

Darren Aronofsky and Russell Crowe Noah

As much as everyone wanted to see Darren Aronofsky tackle a superhero movie with The Wolverine, fate would have it otherwise. But, fear not, it has been said through the grapevine that Aronofsky fans can expect to see the talented director set sails on the Biblical epic, Noah with Russell Crowe come July.

It is not set in stone yet, but according to recent reports, we can expect an official announcement sometime next week. As stated earlier, if this announcement is to be true, shooting will begin in July.

After 2010’s Black Swan, I have become a full Aronofsky supporter. Requiem for a Dream and The Wrestler are fine pieces of cinema, but Black Swan stole my heart – it made my best of 2010 list.

I’m curious to see how dark Aronofsky will go since this film is in relationship to religion and The Bible. As much fun as it was to have Morgan Freeman play God, let’s just hope it is not as bad as Evan Almighty. Russell Crowe is either hit or miss for me. His performances in Gladiator and A Beautiful Mind are top notch, but he has had some sub-par stinkers that include, State of Play, The Next Three Days, and Robin Hood.

From what was mentioned, it has been known that Aronofsky has been wanting to make Noah for quite some time and has been developing the concept since he finished The Fountain. When it comes to films that are backed by Darren Aronofsky, you generally don’t see too much big financing like you would for a big summer blockbuster.

There has been no official release date set as of this moment, but I will be waiting anxiously in anticipation. I hope Aronofsky has a detailed depiction of why there are no more dinosaurs or unicorns left on Earth.
