GamesCom and PAX have officially ended and we are left with some new imagery and a trailer from Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. But we have also confirmed the release date of the game, which is February 19, 2013. Mark your calendars if you’re looking for a balls to the wall action game next year folks. This game is insanely violent and very fast paced.

When I first got my hands on RevengeanceI didn’t really know what to think of it. As a beloved fanboy of the Metal Gear Solid franchise, it was a completely different experience for me. I am not the most avid gamer in the world, but I can hold my own. This new GamesCom 2012 trailer focuses heavily on what you can expect from the gameplay, the story, and how it all fits into the Metal Gear mythos – which isn’t a whole lot. This is Raiden’s story, this is a true spin-off by the purest definition.

If you are not the biggest action gamer, this game may not be for you. The hack and slash controls are quite unique and can slow down the pacing of the game considerably. But if you are intrigued by the whole zan-datsu (cut and take) idea, than by all means, try this game out. If you were at PAX Prime 2012, you were lucky enough to pre-order the game and receive a free, special edition MGR t-shirt.

In the near future, cyborg technology has become commonplace throughout society.  Three years have passed since the collapse of the Patriots system that had been secretly controlling the global power balance from the shadows.  However, peace remains elusive.  The dissemination of cybernetic technology has triggered instability and conflict as those who control the trade gain increasing power.  Furthermore, large ‘Private Military Companies’, or PMCs, that had been supported and controlled by the Patriots have collapsed, spawning countless rogue entities with origins to larger criminal organizations.  These renegade PMCs employing cyborg technology have become increasingly more disruptive shifting policy and power at will.  As a member of the peace-keeping PMC ‘Maverick Security’, Raiden lives by the mantra of protecting and saving lives.  But as the world plunges further into asymmetric warfare, the only path that leads him forward is rooted in resolving his past, and carving through anything that stands in his way.
