The weekend warriors for November 9, 2012 includes Lincoln and Skyfall. Box Office Battlefield is a recurring rundown of upcoming movie releases for the weekend. Every week, movie studios select candidates to enter the glorious battlefield for your hard earned dollars, but not everyone can afford to see each one. Box Office Battlefield is here to help you decide which movie(s) will take priority over the others.
Last weekend, Wreck-it Ralph swept the box office in ticket sales to make it Disney’s highest grossing animated feature ever. Will our 8-bit hero be able to stand up against the 50-year old James Bond franchise or will Abraham Lincoln not tell a lie and present you an Oscar bait film worth your money? This is the Box Office Battlefield:
Skyfall (Directed by Sam Mendes) Starring Daniel Craig, Javier Bardem, Naomie Harris, Ben Whishaw and Judi Dench
Synopsis: Bond’s loyalty to M is tested as her past comes back to haunt her. As MI6 comes under attack, 007 must track down and destroy the threat, no matter how personal the cost.
If you weren’t excited for the twenty-third installment of 007 after watching the full-length theatrical trailer, than you might as well consider yourself a hater of movies. I’ve only heard great things about Skyfall, so far, and I can feel it in my bones that this will be a theater outing occasion. Skyfall is available at certain IMAX locations, but make sure you go to a real IMAX and receive the full benefit of the medium. This movie is a guaranteed return to form for Bond and we should all raise are martinis proudly this weekend. SEE IT!
Lincoln (Directed by Steven Spielberg) Starring Daniel Day-Lewis, Sally Field, David Strathairn, Tommy Lee Jones, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt
Synopsis: As the Civil War continues to rage, America’s president struggles with continuing carnage on the battlefield and as he fights with many inside his own cabinet on the decision to emancipate the slaves.
(Note: Lincoln is at limited theaters and opens wide next weekend) I’m very cautious about this one. On one hand, it’s a Steven Spielberg directed film with a stellar cast. But on the other hand, it just has Oscar bait with reflections of a War Horse like tone to it. I don’t want to be rolling my eyes the entire movie. And if I had a third hand, I would comment the fact that Daniel Day-Lewis’ Abraham Lincoln voice is pretty silly to me. I thought Bane was hilarious, but at least he had a sophisticated English accent. This is a film to watch if you are on Oscar alert, but I’m not sure all audiences will care to see this film. RENT IT!

Box Office Battlefield is an ongoing column suggesting whether you should see, rent, or pass movies that are about to release. All of my opinions are based on what I have or have not seen from previews, various marketing materials, or have heard via word of mouth.
