Movies of the weekend who are battling it out for supremacy and your money of June June 19-21
Year One (Jack Black, Michael Cera, Olivia Wilde) Although I love Harold Ramis’ work, Groundhog Day and Ghostbusters, This doesn’t seem like a typical Ramis movie. It just looks like a typical cheesey overdramatic performance by Black. I am not a Jack Black fan and he just seems to overpower the screen with his yelling and immature humor. Michael Cera seems to be the only thing keeping this movie together and from falling apart. The movie will do well regardless, but will most likely struggle with Transformers coming out next weekend and all the WOM (word-of-mouth advertising). This movie is a rental for sure or maybe even a TBS comedy.
The Proposal (Sandra Bullock, Ryan Reynolds, Betty White) This romantic comedy is sure to bring the ladies into theaters since Ryan Reynolds is a ladykiller and more purposely the only one saving this movie from disaster; is there a theme for the weekend? It’s not that I don’t like Sandra Bullock, I think she is a decent actor, but I just think the story is kind of weak. It looks like a funny rom/com, but it’s nothing short of cliché and predictable as this sort of movie can be. Take a date to this movie, especially if she is Canadian, maybe you’ll get lucky. But this movie isn’t anything special, but if you’re really bored you might as well go see ‘The Proposal.’
Dead Snow (Jeppe Laursen, Charlotte Frogner, Jenny Skavlan) Zombie Nazi’s in Germany, that pretty much just sums up this foreign horror/comedy. From the trailer, it’s obviously this movie wasn’t trying to be serious, but wouldn’t hurt to take a gander at this retardo story zombie flick.
