Heyyoooo, it’s the weekend. It’s movie time! Here are the movies that are opening up this weekend and my suggestion of whether or not to see them:
Gamer (Gerard Butler, Michael C. Hall, Ludacris) This little Death Race meets The Condemned meets The Running Man looks pretty meh in my book. Although Butler and Hall are top performers, this is nothing than a B list movie with a boring story and Ludacris. It could be a decent action drama, but do you really think you’ll care that much about the characters. Maybe if you’re into an action flick to just sit back and let things blow up in your face, then maybe you should go. Rent it
Extract (Jason Bateman, Kristen Wiig, Ben Affleck) Mila Kunis as a manipulative tease……hmmm. A decent looking Mike Judge (Office Space, Beavis and Butthead, King of the Hill) film. From the perspective of the boss of a vanilla extract plant, this guys life looks down in the dumps and has a horrible wife. His friend, played by Affleck, tries to help him out and other random crazy events unfold. This looks decent, but may be a little hyped due to the Judge name. See It/Rent It
Carriers (Chris Pine, Piper Perabo, Lou Taylor Pucci) Another new horror in the form of an infection. Seeing what Pine did in Star Trek, this should be watchable. Lots of horror is on the rise before October this year and this movie looks like it could stand out of the crowd from the slasher flicks and psycho killers. It is a horror film, so viewer beware; you won’t get an academy award winning plot, but it could be interesting. See it/Rent It
All About Steve (Sandra Bullock, Bradley Cooper, Thomas Haden Church) With big name stars, I don’t know how well that will help this movie. It looks cute, quirky, and everything a romantic comedy should be, but it just seems to me that it tries to hard. Obviously, Cooper will learn to fall in love with the stalking Bullock, but at what cost of our sanity do we have to sit through a bunch of drawn out events to try and force a laugh? Love the actors, fear the plot, newer director, writer wrote License to Wed. Rent It
