The title for best picture is heating up as some big films are coming out this weekend along with some more entertaining films than what has come out recently. This weekend of December 11, 2009, what films should you see? Well……I’ll tell you which.
The Princess And The Frog (Anika Noni Rose, Keith David, Oprah Winfrey) A fairy tale set in Jazz Age-era New Orleans and centered on a young girl named Princess Tiana (Anika Noni Rose) and her fateful kiss with a frog prince who desperately wants to be human again.
My Take: An interesting Disney picture that takes a twist off the classic frog and prince scenario. I believe it is the first African American Disney Princess. It looks fun and family friendly. I suppose you could see it with the kids. See It
Invictus (Morgan Freeman, Matt Damon) A look at life of Nelson Mandela (Freeman) after the fall of apartheid in South Africa during his first term as president when campaigned to host the 1995 Rugby World Cup event as an opportunity to unite his countrymen.
My Take: Another Clint Eastwood film based on the novel by John Carlin who also wrote Live Free or Die Hard. With Damon, Freeman and Eastwood at the helm you can expect only great results and an incredible flick. See it
The Lovely Bones (Rachel Weisz, Mark Wahlberg, Saoirse Ronan) Young Susie Salmon (Ronan) watches over her family from “the in-between” as they deal with the aftermath of her brutal rape and murder.
My Take: Peter Jackson directed, which should be a good indicator of vision and story. This film looks very mysterious and intriguing. I would definitely love to see this movie and so should you. See It
A Single Man – Limited until wide release on 12/25 (Colin Firth, Julianne Moore, Matthew Goode) In Los Angeles, an English professor (Firth) whose partner recently passed away tries to go about his day in typical fashion.
My Take: Mysterious and full of emotion, this looks like a really well put together film for first time screenplay writer/director Tom Ford. Visually stunning and well acted, as well, this should be a good one to see. See It
The Slammin’ Salmon (Michael Clarke Duncan, Jay Chandrasekhar, Kevin Heffernan) Cleon Salmon (Duncan), a former prizefighter turned restaurateur, hatches a plan to repay his debts to a Yakuza gang: for one night, the waiter who sells the most food wins $10,000 — the loser, however, gets a beating from Cleon himself.
My Take: Broken Lizard is back and wants to serve you a slammin’ film. This looks hilarious and they have swept off the cobwebs and brought back their comedy guns. See it
