Box Office Battlefield: Avatar, Did You Hear About The Morgans, and Nine

The weekend all nerds and Cameron fans have been waiting for for over a year. What is all the hype about? Well I can say the hype is about $350 million, but thats a different story. For the weekend of December 18, 2009, this will mark the day that movies change the way they think about shooting film, supposedly. What should you see; well I’ll tell you. Did You Here About the Morgans? (Hugh GrantSarah Jessica ParkerSam Elliott) In New York City, an estranged couple (Grant and Parker) who witness a murder are relocated to small-town Wyoming as part of a witness-protection program.

My take: Any movie with Hugh Grant is garbage and so is this movie, pure garbage. Skip this garbage

Avatar (Sam WorthingtonSigourney WeaverMichelle RodriguezZoe Saldana) A paraplegic former marine (Worthington) accepts a unique mission that sends him to the planet Pandora, where, through a connection to a remotely controlled biological body, he learns the way of the indigenous Na’vi people. His link to this world puts him in direct opposition with his orders to infiltrate the Na’vi and remove the barrier between them and the precious ore desired by military and corporate interests.

My Take: This epic blockbuster of a film could be called game changing. To some it could be a drastic overkill. What is this movie? It is completely over the top and for Jimmy Cameron to come out of hiding and to finally do a film after Titanic must have been for a good reason. Now I’ve read that this has been a script in the making since the 90s and they have just been waiting for the right moment until the technology caught up to the right way to shoot the film. So they brushed off the cobwebs and shot the film in all brand new ways. From what I also read, though, is that the plot is a little above average, but the dialogue struggles. Visually the film looks great, the 3D most likely will add nothing, but it seems like it will leave you pretty satisfied over all. See this film

Nine – Limited Until 12/25 (Daniel Day-LewisMarion CotillardPenélope Cruz) Famous film director Guido Contini (Day-Lewis) struggles to find harmony in his professional and personal lives, as he engages in dramatic relationships with his wife, his mistress, his muse, his agent, and his mother.

My Take: Now this has great name actors and director Rob Marshall does know his stuff, but there hasn’t been too much buzz about the film. Now I’ve read mixed reviews and rotten tomatoes doesn’t give this film much hope, but I’m sure its entertaining. I heard good story, but bad musical. I’d rent it most likely

Crazy HeartLimited Theaters only (Jeff BridgesMaggie GyllenhaalColin Farrell) A hard-living country music singer (Bridges) makes a reach for salvation with the help of a journalist (Gyllenhaal) set in her attempt to find the real man behind the musician.

My Take: It’s like The Wrestler for country music. With a great cast and interesting story, I’m sure this film has all the elements of a good film. It already has golden globe nominations and oscar buzz is floating around. I suggest you see this film where you can
