The valiant attendees of WonderCon 2014 arrived to Anaheim, CA in a spectacular display of cosplay this past Easter weekend. No genre or medium was left unturned as cosplayers from far and wide proved their fandom to the fullest. From Doctor Who to Adventure Time to Assassin’s Creed to Star Wars, WonderCon 2014 was a great weekend to be a cosplayer. Check out the full gallery of over 200 images after the break. What lies ahead of us? Where will mankind be 100 years, 500 years, or even 100 years into the future? We’ll never know, but if you are a film advocate like myself then you know that it can either get really freaking fantastic or go downhill anytime now. Check out the full awesome inforgraphic timeline after the jump!
Not only was the movie, The Last Airbender, a horrible adaptation of a great animated series, but it was a complete insult to everything that Avatar: The Last Airbender had created. With hopes of redemption, I believe that The Last Airbender: The Legend of Korra will make up for M. Night Shamalamadingdong’s failure and save this once great franchise. At this year’s Comic-Con, the folks at Nickelodeon had brought the first trailer for The Legend of Korra and it was more than anyone could have dreamed of. Watch the spectacular trailer after the jump!
If you ever wanted to let your geek flag fly high and proud than Saturday is your day! On Satruday, the San Diego Comic-Con will house a full array of anything you could ever ask for in a convention. From discussions on the future of comics to the inspirational words of Joss Whedon, this day is your day. You can learn how to draw in one room and learn about the future of Avatar: The Legend of Korra in another. Panels will discus videogames, anime, manga, steampunk, and so much more. I’m still really really pissed I wasn’t able to get a badge for this thing.
The ever so infamous Hall H will be graced by the presence of FRANCIS FORD COPPOLA as he presents his panel on his new film TWIXT! How ridiculous is that?! Unfortunately the bigger guns like The Avengers, The Dark Knight Rises, and Superman: Man of Steel are not making a big presence, if any, at the con, but you will be getting previews of Snow White and the Huntsmen, Dorothy of Oz, Knights of Badassdom, and Immortals. Even Kevin Smith will be in Hall H.
Nickelodeon has sent out a press release, which SuperHeroHype obtained, giving information on the greenlight to “The Legend of Korra,” from “Avatar: The Last Airbender” series creators Micael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko. The next series in the Avatar franchise is going to take place 70 years after the events of Avatar: The Last Airbender. The new Avatar will be a hot headed rebellious teenage girl who we follow after she has mastered three of the four elements and now looks for a master to teach her airbending. She meets Aang’s son, Tenzin, in the middle of the biggest city in the world now, Republic City. There their travels take them through adventures to help fight crime and solve mysteries in the new world. After watching the highly praised series, I can vouch and say that this is pretty awesome news. I hope they maintain the spirit and creativity that the first series offered. You can check out the full press release after the break.
The creative host, Worth1000.com, that gives many graphic artists a place to upload their fun work and give younglings tutorials on graphic design have come out with their 15th annual “Mate a Movie 15” poster mash-up design contest winners. There are a lot of funny ones, a lot about Avatar, and I have a good amount here (most of which are my favorites). You can check them out if you keep reading after the jump!
BAFTA (the British Academy of Film and Television Arts) Awards happened a little while back, but this artist, Travis Coburn, was chosen to draw up one of each best film nominees for this years BAFTA’s (Avatar, An Education, The Hurt Locker, Precious, and Up in the Air). These retro posters are pretty spiffy and I wish I was this cool to illustrate something like this, maybe if I had like a year to do it I could. You can see more of Travis’ work Portfolio 1 and Portfolio 2. Check the five out after the jump!
So over at Oscar.com they had a little contest of trivial knowledge of Oscar history throughout the last month along with a ballot that would count for points as well. During the Academy Awards they also had live trivia that added more points and if your ballot had the right winner you would receive more points. Well……I got fifth overall some how and I don’t know how. It was pretty ridiculous. I did answer the questions everyday and I followed along all night. And my name was shown on the website. Woot! That’s pretty cool and I got some screen caps of the score. My final score was 46,371 with first place being 49,685. I was so close, but oh well. I got in fourth at one point into the night, but I slipped up some where.
You can check out my score among the top 10 after the jump!
Tonight is the big night and I’ve got the live updates of the winners as they come. The 82nd Academy Awards will take place on tonight, Sunday March, 7th at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood with a live telecast airing on ABC starting at 8PM (EST) / 5PM (PST) and hosted by Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin.
Hopefully we’ll see the deserving winners, fun performances, great tributes and memorable moments. This was an amazing year of film and this should be a night that will be remembered in Hollywood. A great solo tribute to the late great John Hughes will also be done, which I am pretty excited for. ALSOOOO A SALUTE TO HORROR FILMS!!! Should be a great night.
And the Oscar goes too……
Tonight marks the 82nd Annual Academy Awards and will be the biggest night in film all year. It’s been a long time coming and who will land on top of this ridiculous year of film? With record breakers, e-mail controversies, and amazingly original stories, this night is going to be very interesting to see the outcome. I’m pretty excited, are you?! Well here are my predictions as I see them, I’m probably right, just saying you know………But seriously, hopefully I’m right because I’ll get some pretty cool prizes with my predictions with all the contests I entered. With out further ado……
And the Oscar goes to……
