Franchise nostalgia start your engines. Pirates of the Caribbean has not seen a movie since 2007 and many believed that the franchise would never see another movie with all of the mixed emotions of the second and third movies. I, myself, find them easily acceptable, but nothing too amazing praise about. The first one will always hold a place in my heart. But let’s talk about this teaser trailer for Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, which you can watch after the jump and look for the movie May 20, 2011! [Update 1/2: I just nabbed over 150 screenshots of the trailer too!]
From the looks of this trailer, OST stays pretty true to the original trilogy with its comedy, action, and characters. There are a few things that make me pretty excited about it and a few things that don’t.
First off, no Orlando Bloom and Kiera Knightley is a plus in my book. BUT it looks like there is a fresh new kid who seems to fall for a mermaid. I hope that it doesn’t turn into a dumb love subplot that has little to do with the main task of getting to the fountain of youth. OST is littered with enough on its plate (Blackbeard and his daughter, Barbosa, zombies, mermaids, the fountain of youth) and it doesn’t need an icky love story cluttering it up.
Barbosa looks like he might be employed by the British royal navy now with his attire and dialogue spoken within the trailer. I’m not to fond of the integration of zombies. They just seem a little out of place for this universe.
Visually, On Stranger Tides looks great like its predecessors. Rob Marshall must have had a good conversation with the previous trilogy director and now producer, Jerry Bruckheimer, but Marshall has to have a good eye for cinema after his latest releases (Memoirs of a Geisha, Chicago, Nine). It should be a great ride and fresh new story to tell in the pirating world, which may sprout another trilogy. I’m excited.
Official Plot Synopsis [/Film]:
In this action-packed tale of truth, betrayal, youth and demise, Captain Jack Sparrow crosses paths with a woman from his past (Penelope Cruz), and he’s not sure if it’s love–or if she’s a ruthless con artist who’s using him to find the fabled Fountain of Youth. When she forces him aboard the Queen Anne’s Revenge, the ship of the formidable pirate Blackbeard (Ian McShane), Jack finds himself on an unexpected adventure in which he doesn’t know who to fear more: Blackbeard or the woman from his past.

Don’t read the following paragraph if you don’t want to read SPOILERS about the first third of the film.
“The whole opening and the first third of the film takes place in London. So we start on dry land and there is an impostor that Jack is looking for. He then escapes from the palace, gets captured by King George and there is a huge carriage chase…[W]e set sail and that is sort of the second act. It’s a new ship, Blackbeard’s ship, the ‘Queen Anne’s Revenge.’ Then Barbossa has a new ship called the ‘Providence.’ The third act is this incredible jungle adventure through caves where they are looking for the Fountain of Youth.” (Comingsoon.net)
