Harry Potter Retrospective Celebrates Complete Blu-Ray Box Set Arrival

Harry Potter Retrospective

One of the most epic, fantasy films is coming to home video in one complete, massive blu-ray box set this Friday. I’m talking about Harry Potter of course! The Complete Harry Potter Wizard’s Collection Blu-Ray Box Set comes complete with with 31-discs and over 37 hours of special features jam packed for your viewing pleasure. But before you go out and spend an excruciatus amount of wizard gold, one man has created an nostalgic retrospective to get you in the mood.

Kees van Dijkhuizen is best known for his great editing work with his end of the year montages. This time van Dijkhuizen has decided to take on the wizarding world and create a 13-minute long retrospective video for all the Harry Potterfans out there. I’m not going to say it’s incredible, but I will say that he has done a lot better than this.

In many of his movie montages, van Dijkhuizen cleverly weaves together various different movies, incorporating different themes and seamlessly connecting imagery together pretty well. You would think that putting together a Harry Potter montage would be an easy task, but not quite.

Kees just seemed to put all the films in order of appearance and it looks more like all the trailers with spoilers one after another than a retrospective or montage. There isn’t really much heart in this work and it looks just thrown together. He doesn’t really drive any of the themes home except for the last two minutes.

Harry Potter took 10 long years to build this world and the characters we all know and love, and it just it’s not shown here. This wouldn’t sell me on the franchise one bit. But hey, if you’d like to just revisit every tale in order of how they were told, then by all means, this is the perfect video for you!

I’ve already said my piece on this Blu-ray set. They don’t come with the extended editions, so I will not buy them. How can ABC Family be allowed to air the extended editions on television, but Warner Bros. Home Entertainment can’t release them on home video? That is not brilliant.

  1. Dude what in the hell are you thinking? This was honestly an amazing trailer, and this gave me, along with alot of other youtube users tears. This is not something that was put together, this was something that was meaningful and has a place in all of our hearts. Me, along with alot of other people have grown up with the Harry Potter series. And to see something as brilliant as this put together, brings us back to those special moments, those laughs, those tears that we had with Harry Potter.

I know this may just be an opinion that you have. But damn, it’s a terrible one.

    • I honestly didn’t see too many special moments in this retrospective. It was just a by the book recap of the stories and not of the emotional journey we took with the characters.
