Televised video game awards earn such a niché audience. The appeal to the medium is considerably minuscule compared to film or music. For the last 10 years, Spike has attempted to draw in the masses by injecting mainstream pop culture into their own Video Game Awards show. Establishing a more interactive element, this year’s Spike VGAs brought new life to the awards show. See the full winners list after the break.
A new interactive awards show wasn’t the only thing Spike was bringing to the table. Never before seen footage from the most highly anticipated games made their way to the stage, including Gears of War: Judgement, South Park: The Stick of Truth, The Last of Us, Tomb Raider, BioShock; Infinite, and many more.
There was also one big introduction to a game entitled, The Phantom Pain, which many are speculating it to be in relation to Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes or even a hint of Metal Gear Solid 5. Squee!
Aside from the big footage premieres, the winners list was the talk of the industry. Many who follow the video game awards scene typically disregard the antics of the Spike VGAs due to their mainstream pandering. Despite this repeat offense, fans of the games nominated were very happy to see well-deserving titles being awarded top honors rather than some of the obvious big studio choices.
