Have we really come to this? A sixth entry in the Fast & Furious franchise. Whodathunk? But I’ve got to say, based on the trailer that was unleashed during the Super Bowl, I am highly intrigued. The whole crew returns for an all new fast-paced, adrenaline rush adventure, which has them up against a tank and the return of an old friend. My history with the Fast & Furious franchise has not been one of high worship or praise. I’ve always considered them highly lowbrow. Now that my palette has considerably opened up, I would like to try and get behind these movies after seeing this Super Bowl teaser. I’ve seen The Fast and the Furious, 2 Fast 2 Furious, and Fast & Furious, so I still need to embark on Fast Five and The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift. And now, from only what I’ve seen from Fast 6, I am willing to dedicate myself to see what the hype is all about.
The trailer for Fast & Furious 6 is slick. It’s like a completely different film from whence the franchise started back in 2001. (Vin Diesel doesn’t look like he’s aged one bit.) It’s funny seeing all of these actors continue after 12 years. Without any hesitation, it appears as though they all know how strong the franchise is and love their fans; and I respect that. Sure there is a lot of winking and over the top moments, but I feel like that’s what makes these movies fun. Watch the teaser trailer below:
Pretty crazy right? How did Michelle Rodriguez’s Letty return? That was a huge gasp on the Twittersphere. I can’t honestly remember what happened in Fast & Furious, but I know she had a big role and we were obviously meant to think she died. It’s interesting to see how genre oriented these films have become too; each one with their own separate agenda. The fifth I know is about a heist, and this one looks more like an action-packed thrill ride. I’m on board.
Here is a brief plot synopsis from Universal Pictures’ official YouTube page:
Since Dom (Diesel) and Brian’s (Walker) Rio heist toppled a kingpin’s empire and left their crew with $100 million, our heroes have scattered across the globe. But their inability to return home and living forever on the lam have left their lives incomplete.
The best part about these movies too is that they don’t try to be overly complicated. But the further we go into the franchise, I feel like the writers and directors are giving the characters and their universe an enormous amount of depth – more than the original director, Rob Cohen, had ever expected.
Along with Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, and Michelle Rodriguez, Fast & Furious 6 also stars Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Sung Kang, Gal Gadot, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Luke Evans, and Gina Carano.
Fast & Furious 6 is directed by Justin Lin and will let loose in theaters Memorial Day weekend, May 24, 2013.
