Hexxus is back to destroy the rainforest once and for all, and the daughter of Zak Young must find a way to get back to FernGully to save Queen Crysta and her fairy people. Just kidding. Epic is an entirely different film based on an adaptation of a children’s story that bears many similarities to that of the classic Australian-animated feature from 1992. Watch the full-length theatrical trailer for Epic after the break.

From the creators of Rio and Ice Age comes the next adventure in the fight against good versus evil. Epic is jam packed full of unique voice talents such as Amanda Seyfried, Colin Farrell, Josh Hutcherson, and Beyonce Knowles. And although it appears to be beautifully well animated, I am not awed by the character design or environments. Hopefully Epic will be able to live up to its name.

The trailer below features a lot more dialogue than the previous teaser that was filled with pretty epic music. This new full-length trailer is more playful and upbeat. I think we get a good sense the characters’ personalities, but not too much depth on the story or what the main goal of this movie is. Their is a narrator that starts off talking about the movie, then says “This summer,” and then he stops explaining the story. It’s kind of odd. See for yourself:

I guess for an animated movie you only have to sell it to children and the parents will shell out the cash and endure. Epic doesn’t seem like a total waste of time, but I’d like to get a better sense of what it’s all about other than two warring species of little people. Along with the wide range of voice actors, there is a variety of different creatures and characters to give the world some richness.

If the trailer was in any too way vague, here is the official plot synopsis courtesy of Apple Trailers:

EPIC tells the story of an ongoing battle deep in the forest between the forces of good who keep the natural world alive and the forces of evil who wish to destroy it. When a teen age girl finds herself magically transported into this secret universe, she must band together with a rag-tag team of fun and whimsical characters in order to save their world… and ours.
