In the same boat as The Cabin in the Woods, horror fans are finally going to receive a movie they have been waiting for two long years. Lionsgate has released the first trailer for You’re Next, a home invasion thriller that premiered with much praise in 2011 at Fantastic Fest and TIFF. Since it’s only March, with the movie opening in August, this is a cruel tease. Watch the trailer after the break if you can hold out for only a few more months.
This happy, well-off family that is about to be tore up from the floor up is the Davidson family. At the heads of the table we have Paul (Rob Moran) and Aubrey (Barbara Crampton), who are being visited by their children and their loved ones. What we are to assume to be the final girl, whom you may have seen images of, is Erin, played by Sharni Vinson (Step Up 3D). What turns out to be a nice, family gathering of course won’t be so nice at the end.
Now I’m not one to watch trailers for horror movies I’m anticipating because most of the time they give everything away, but I have seen bits and pieces of the trailer for You’re Next. From what I saw, there’s a typical family set up, some creepy animal masks, and blood on the walls all set to the tune of Lou Reed’s “Perfect Day.” If a family is looking to have their home invaded and terrorized, it is such a perfect day, isn’t it?
Whatdya think? Do you like? Can Lionsgate make it a back to back horror year for shelved films? I have been waiting for this as long as anyone and I hope reality meets my expectations. I honestly don’t know what to expect because I have only flipped through the trailer to get the screenshots for you fine folk. It looks pretty basic. There must be something in the film that sets it apart from other home invasion films that Lionsgate is nice enough not to share.
Here’s the official plot synopsis for You’re Next courtesy of Apple Trailers (I would actually suggest not reading it if you don’t want to be spoiled):
When a gang of masked, ax-wielding murderers descend upon the Davison family reunion, the hapless victims seem trapped… until an unlikely guest of the family proves to be the most talented killer of all.
You’re Next invades the cinemas August 23, 2013.
