After the Wachowski’s very divisive Cloud Atlas, the siblings return to their science fiction/fantasy roots with Jupiter Ascending. More famously known for The Matrix trilogy, the Wachowskis will bring audiences into an intergalactic fight for power with Mila Kunis smack dab in the middle. Watch the trailer after the break.
Despite what others said about it, I am a fan of Cloud Atlas. There was something fascinating about the premise and the world building the Wachowski’s were able to create along with Tom Tykwer. And looking back at The Matrix and Speed Racer, the Wachowski’s have never been one to skimp on the visuals and Jupiter Ascending seems like a really crazy ride that I would love to go on. The visuals look fantastic and the look of the spacecrafts stand out.
The concept isn’t something we haven’t quite seen before – main character turns out to be royalty, embarking on a fish out of water tale while getting caught up in the kingdom’s politics – but I sense that the Wachowski’s have something more in mind to make this feel more original than it should be. The fact that they make Earth a pawn in a larger game of whatever it is these Jupiteronians are playing seems like a nice macguffin to put stakes on.
