Elizabeth Banks Confirmed to Direct 'Pitch Pefect 2'

It has been officially confirmed that Effie Trinket Elizabeth Banks will be making her feature length directorial debut with Pitch Perfect 2. Banks will bring her keen comedic talents to as she was the producer of the first Pitch Perfect. This is a caglorious news. Learn more after the break.

The star of such films as The Hunger Games, Zack and Miri Make a Porno, and The 40-Year-Old Virgin has some big pants to fill as Pitch Perfect has become a cultural phenomenon. I expected the film to suck hard, but I walked out with a big, shit eating grin and a tickled tummy. After success its success, Anna Kendrick’s rise in fandom over “Cups” and her quirky tweets, and Rebel Wilson’s random shenanigans, it was only a matter of time before audiences would receive a sequel.

The Hollywood Reporter states that Banks will also be returning as producer and co-star as well. No confirmations as to whether or not Wilson or Kendrick will return, but it wouldn’t be a Pitch Perfect movie without them and we should expect to see a casting announcement soon.

Pitch Perfect left the box office with $113 million worldwide gross on a $17 million budget, but studio estimates claim that the home video and digital download sales generated almost $135 million in North America alone. Not only was the movie a hit, so was the soundtrack.

Universal Pictures chairman Donna Langley had kind words to say about Banks announcement as director:

“Elizabeth originated the idea for Pitch Perfect and was instrumental in making the first film such a huge success. She brings an enormous amount of energy and experience to everything she works on and we’re thrilled that she is making her feature directorial debut on Pitch Perfect 2.”

Hopefully Banks takes her own advice and makes the best sequel we’ve ever seen.

Kay Cannon will be returning as the screenwriter for Pitch Perfect 2. The original film starred Anna Kendrick, Adam Levine, Rebel Wilson, Skyler Astin, Anna Camp, and Brittany Snow.

Pitch Perfect 2 is expected to hit theaters in 2015.
