The final poster for Mad Men has been developed by none other than the world renowned graphic artist Milton Glaser. In his own unique and colorful vision, Glaser composed a poster for AMC that reflected the 70’s, the era in which we will be greeting the fine folks of Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce in the seventh and final season. Check out the poster after the break.
For those who may not recognize Glaser’s name, many will know his work. From the I [heart] NY graphic to a dazzling side portrait of Bob Dylan, Milton Glaser has been a huge influence to many graphic artists throughout the ages. It only makes sense to have such an influence of the era to compose such a vivid depiction of what’s to come in the final 16 episodes of Mad Men.
In an exclusive interview with AMC, Glaser talks about his inspiration for the artwork and how it ties back to Don Draper:
“In the process of doing it, it just felt more convincing and more interesting to have some figurative element, notably the head of a woman and the wine being poured. So we moved away from the idea of having a sort of wallpaper extraction that would sort of symbolize the moment towards having a bit of narration where the characters in the image are related to a story that as going on.”
When it comes to actually understanding and relating to the content, Glaser is no stranger to Mad Men:
“I watch it all the time. It was an environment that I grew up in. I had a lot of friends in the advertising business, and it was a growth of a particular moment in the advertising world… I used to work for ad agencies frequently — a lot more then than I do now. So I knew the world. And Mad Men is a really wonderful re-evocation of that time.”
