Movies on Blu-Ray

Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues (Adam McKay) With the 70s behind him, San Diego’s top rated newsman, Ron Burgundy, returns to take New York’s first 24-hour news channel by storm. Starring Will Ferrell, Christina Applegate, Paul Rudd, Steve Carell, Kristen Wiig, and James Marsden (Watch the trailer)

If you’re expecting lightning to strike twice you can look elsewhere. Anchorman 2 is just a terribly pieced together string of jokes that occasionally work. This is not a return to form for Adam McKay, Will Ferrell turns Ron into a bigger man-child, and the plot is just horrendous. I WOULD BUY THIS IF IT WAS $5.99 ON BLACK FRIDAY. The only benefit of buying this would be to check out all of the special features, which there are plenty of:

  • Unrated Cut of Anchorman 2
  • Unrated Cut Commentary with Adam McKay, Judd Apatow, Will Ferrell, Steve Carell, Paul Rudd & David Koechner

47 Ronin (Carl Rinsch) A band of samurai set out to avenge the death and dishonor of their master at the hands of a ruthless shogun. Starring Keanu Reeves, Hiroyuki Sanada, Kô Shibasaki, and Tadanobu Asano

The long awaited samurai epic fails to be anything more than just a glossy assortment of OK fight sequences. The story is shallow, the acting subpar, and the fact that we have to rely on Keanu Reeves to save every is not fun. NETFLIX IT WHEN AVAILABLE. Special features included are:

  • Keanu & Kai
  • Steel Fury: The Fights of 47 Ronin
  • Myths, magic & monsters: The FX of 47 Ronin
  • Additional Features
  • Deleted scenes
  • Re-forging the legend

Knights of Badassdom (Joe Lynch) Live-action role players conjure up a demon from Hell by mistake and they must deal with the consequences. Starring Ryan Kwanten, Steve Zahn, Peter Dinklage, Summer Glau, Danny Pudi, Michael Gladis, Brett Gipson, and Margarita Levieva

The long awaited release of Knights of Badassdom has finally arrived. This is a really low key, fun, indie flick that has fun with its source material and actors. The plot is very simple, yet playful and witty. All of the actors seem to be fully immersed in their characters and there to have a good time. And although it may not have as much emotional resonance as Role Models, Knights of Badassdom is just a solid B movie to kick back an  enjoy. For anyone who enjoys geek culture, LARPing, dungeons and dragons, and other properties to that degree, Knights of Badassdom will be a good time. It also has one of the most solid casts from True Blood, Firefly, Community, Game of Thrones, and more. BUY IT IF ANY OF WHAT I JUST SAID SOUNDS ENTICING. DEFINITELY A GOOD RENT FOR THOSE WHO ENJOY THESE KINDS OF THINGS BUT ARE ON THE FENCE.

The special features are also worthwhile, especially for those who do not get to enjoy the Comic-Con experience. Check out the special features below:

  • San Diego Comic-Con panel
  • Interviews with Peter Dinklage, Steve Zahn
  • Summer Glau hottie montage
  • Behind-the-scenes featurettes

Television on Blu-Ray

Dragon Ball Z: The Complete Third Season (Daisuke Nishio) All seven Namekian Dragon Balls have been assembled, and the dragon Porunga has been summoned! Goku and his loyal friends must stop Frieza from making his wish for immortality. To defeat this monstrous foe, a Super Saiyan must emerge. Starring Sean Schemmel, Stephanie Nadolny, Christopher Sabat, Daisuke Gōri, Mayumi Tanaka, and Kenji Utsumi

The Frieza saga is definitely what I grew up on. They replayed these episodes until could memorize the dialogue backward and forward on Toonami. BUY IT IF YOU’RE A FAN. Special features included are:

  • Inside Dragon Ball Z: Interview with Gen Fukunaga
  • Inside Dragon Ball Z: Interview with John Burgmeier
  • Slideshow Retrospective Part Three
  • Textless Opening Song
  • Textless Closing Song
  • U.S. Trailer
  • Additional Trailers

Hot Wheels: Battle Force 5: Season 2, Vol. 1 and 2 (Mattel) Fueled by molten antimatter energy, BF5’s vehicles transform into armored battle vehicles and into bigger, more incredible fusion vehicles to help them overthrow Krytus plan of becoming the all-powerful leader of the multiverse and prevent him from destroying the Blue Sentient civilization. Starring Kira Tozer, Mark Hildreth, and Kathleen Barr

If you have kids who love Hot Wheels and likes silly action adventure than they will definitely get a kick out of this show.
