Welcome to The Streaming Report for May 1, 2014. After the long week you deserve a relaxing staycation with a bowl of popcorn, a bucket of ice cream, and only your Netflix queue to judge you. This past week, Netflix Watch Instant has been kind enough to supply us with Godzilla, James Bond, Hook, Metallica Through the Never, and more, which you’ll find after the break.
James Bond (A View to a Kill – Roger Moore) (You Only Live Twice – Sean Connery) (From Russia with Love – Sean Connery) (Goldfinger – Sean Connery) (Live and Let Die – Roger Moore) (The Living Daylights – Timothy Dalton) (Never Say Never Again – Sean Connery)
A slew of new James Bond movies have been uploaded to Netflix as you can see. I was a big fan of the franchise in my formative years growing up and loved Goldfinger and Live and Let Die. Always great to catch up with classic Bond movies if you haven’t seen them or want a refresher before Bond 24 gets rolling.
Classic Godzilla (Godzilla vs. Mothra) (Godzilla Raids Again) (Godzilla vs. Monster Zero) (Godzilla’s Revenge) (Godzilla: King of the Monsters) (Terror of Mechagodzilla)
It would appear that the marketing team of either Godzilla or Netflix timed the upload of these classic movies perfectly with the release of the reboot/sequel this month. Good popcorn flicks to shut your brain off and have a good laugh with your friends.
Adventures in Babysitting (Chris Columbus) Chris Parker agrees to babysit after her “dread” date stands her up. Expecting a dull evening, Chris settles down with three kids for a night of TV… and boredom. But when her frantic friend Brenda calls and pleads to be rescued from the bus station in downtown Chicago, the evening soon explodes into an endless whirl of hair-raising adventures! Starring Elisabeth Shue, Maia Brewton, and Keith Coogan
Here’s a great coming of age, teen comedy for the whole family to enjoy. Plus a big plug for Thor before he was cool. (Watch it now)
Metallica Through the Never (Nimród Antal) Trip, a young roadie for Metallica, is sent on an urgent mission during the band’s show. But what seems like a simple assignment turns into a surreal adventure. Starring Dane DeHaan, James Hetfield, and Lars Ulrich
From the director who brought us Predators, Armored, and Vacancy comes the Metallica concert documentary that released last year. So if Metallica is your thing and you want to throw up the horns – \m/ – in the comfort of your own home, be my guest. No judgement. (Watch it now)
Kill Bill: Vol 1 & 2 (Quentin Tarantino) The Bride wakens from a four-year coma. The child she carried in her womb is gone. Now she must wreak vengeance on the team of assassins who betrayed her – a team she was once part of. Starring Uma Thurman, David Carradine, Daryl Hannah, Lucy Liu, Michael Madsen, and Vivica A. Fox
Haven’t had your fill of Tarantino since Django Unchained released over a year ago or tired of waiting whether or not he’ll make The Hateful Eight? Well now you can watch both Kill Bills without any of those lame F/X commercials or censorship. The whole bloody affair is up for grabs on Netflix Streaming for you to enjoy. And I highly recommend you watch ’em if you haven’t before. (Watch Vol. 1 now) (Watch Vol. 2 now)
Hook (Steven Spielberg) When Captain Hook kidnaps his children, an adult Peter Pan must return to Neverland and reclaim his youthful spirit in order to challenge his old enemy. Dustin Hoffman, Robin Williams, Julia Roberts, and Bob Hoskins
I will never understand why there is so much hate for this film by critics – maybe because I grew up on it – but how could you say no to just the sheer goofiness and innocence of it all? And with the sad passing of Bob Hoskins, there is no better time than now to watch Hook! Watch it you near-sighted gynecologist! (Watch it now)
