Movies on Blu-Ray
Veronica Mars (Rob Thomas) Years after walking away from her past as a teenage private eye, Veronica Mars gets pulled back to her hometown – just in time for her high school reunion – in order to help her old flame Logan Echolls, who’s embroiled in a murder mystery. Starring Kristen Bell, Jason Dohring, and Enrico Colantoni
Full disclosure, I have never seen a single episode of Veronica Mars before. This little factor may have had an influence on my lack of enjoyment of this film. Perhaps if I understood the relationship of the characters better from the show and was able to spend more time with them I could have appreciated this fan-driven movie.
Veronica Mars just comes off as a straight procedural, who-done-it film with red herrings and some convenient deductions, but I can definitely see how people can get into the characters. I do want to watch the show eventually, and then I’ll have to rewatch this movie to see if I can find that spark I was missing when I first saw it. BUY IT IF YOU’RE A MARSHMALLOW! WAIT FOR IT ON NETFLIX IF YOU’RE NOT! Special features includes:
- By the fans: The making of the Veronica Mars movie: Rob Thomas, Kristen Bell and the entire Veronica Mars cast take you from its record-breaking Kickstarter launch to the first day on set and beyond!
- More on-set fun: Monkeying around with Kristen Bell, Chris Lowell, Max Greenfield
- Deleted scenes
Son of batman (Ethan Spaulding) Batman learns he has a violent, unruly pre-teen son, secretly raised by the terrorist group the League of Assassins. Starring Jason O’Mara, Stuart Allan, and Thomas Gibson
For those deeply invested in the Batman lore, Son of Batman is a fun, gritty, animated feature that doesn’t pull any punches. It’s fast, violent, and full of that dark Batman edge we all come to enjoy. The plot of it all is a bit linear for a detective such as Batman, but the dynamic between himself and Damian is pretty entertaining to behold. Talia and Nightwing are sadly wasted as an interesting characters, but Alfred has a few good quips. Deathstroke is a formidable foe, but you have to really be a fan of the Batman world because no back story or spark notes are given, you dive head first with this film. BUY IT IF YOU’RE A HARDCORE BATMAN FAN! WAIT FOR IT ON NETFLIX IF YOU’RE NOT! Special features includes:
- Strange blood ties: Damian Wayne featurette
- Designing the characters with Phil Bourassa featurette
- The Fang and the Demon Head: the League of Assassins featurette
- A sneak peek at DC Universe’s next animated movie: Batman: Assault on Arkham
- From the DC comics vault – 4 bonus cartoons
Revenge of the Nerds (Jeff Kanew) At a big campus, a group of bullied outcasts and misfits resolve to fight back for their peace and self respect. Starring Robert Carradine, Anthony Edwards, and Timothy Busfield
I love Revenge of the Nerds. Anytime I see it on TV I am just enamored with how fun, goofy, and smart the comedy was for its time. The movie still holds up after 30 years. Can you believe it’s been that long since its release? The transfer to Blu-ray is done fairly well and the special features are very enjoyable. To hear what the cast went through and the stories they told were great. BUY IT! Special features includes:
- Commentary by director Jeff Kanew and actors Robert Carradine, Timothy Busfield and Curtis Armstrong

Napoleon Dynamite (10-Year Anniversary Edition) (Jared Hess) A listless and alienated teenager decides to help his new friend win the class presidency in their small western high school, while he must deal with his bizarre family life back home. Starring Jon Heder, Efren Ramirez, Jon Gries, Tina Majorino, and Haylie Duff
Gosh, has it been 10 years already? I remember watching this movie the summer leading up to my senior year in high school. Everyone was talking about it. Everyone was mimicking it. If it released today I don’t even think it would have the same traction. It just released at the right time, at the right moment. I think it was just one of those wacky, feel good movies, that are one of the last great quotable comedies. There are so many genuinely classic moments that are ingrained in the history of cinema that it’s hard to ever forget that this film exists, which proves it will withstand the test of time. BUY IT IF YOU STILL LOVE THE MOVIE! Special features includes:
