Now Available to Own: Non-Stop, Cosmos, True Detective, and More

Television on Blu-Ray

Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey (Ann Druyan, Seth MacFarlane, Brannon Braga) A documentary series that explores how we discovered the laws of nature and found our coordinates in space and time. Starring Neil deGrasse Tyson, Stoney Emshwiller, and Piotr Michael

If you want to wrinkle your brain and go outside the box into some really serious thought, Cosmos is the answer. For short docu-miniseries, Cosmos hits some really interesting, hard-hitting questions that are exhausting yet so fascinating to take in. I already feel small enough, but to hear Neil deGrasse Tyson tell me how insignificant my life is on this small rock in a gigantic ocean among the stars is just a lot to take in.

The narration and questions Tyson brings up are fantastic, and the visuals to go along with it are great. Anyone looking to expand their knowledge about existence and the universe needs to see this series. It’s wonderful. BUY IT! Special features included are:

  • The Cosmic Calendar: An Interactive Look at the History of the Universe (Blu-ray Exclusive)
  • COSMOS: A SPACETIME ODYSSEY – The Voyage Continues
  • Celebrating Carl Sagan: A Selection From The Library of Congress Dedication
  • COSMOS at Comic-Con 2013

True Detective: The Complete First Series (Nic Pizzolatto) The lives of two detectives, Rust Cohle and Martin Hart, become entangled during a 17-year hunt for a serial killer in Louisiana. Starring Matthew McConaughey, Woody Harrelson, Michelle Monaghan, and Alexandra Daddario

The white whale. True Detective is the one thing I desperately need to catch up on based on the hype I have encountered. I’ve heard nothing but great things, but unfortunately life happens and I haven’t had time to sit down and watch it. Luckily there are only 8 episodes in this first series with Harrelson and McConaughey. Based on the butt load of special features, I would say BUY IT! Those features included are:

  • A Conversation with Nic Pizzolatto and T Bone Burnett
  • An in-depth discussion with the series Creator/Executive Producer/winter and the legendary composer on the series and the pivotal role of music
  • Behind-the-scenes interviews with cast and crew, including unseen footage
  • Deleted scenes
  • Inside the episode
  • Making True Detective
  • Never-before-seen footage from the series
  • Nic Pizzolatto and Director Cary Joji Fukunaga share their thoughts on character development and offer insights into each episode
  • Two Audio Commentaries featuring Nic Pizzolatto, T Bone Burnett and Executive Producer Scott Stephens
  • Up Close With Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson exclusive interviews with the stars about filming the series

Ray Donovan: The Complete First Season (Ann Biderman) Ray Donovan, a professional “fixer” for the rich and famous in LA, can make anyone’s problems disappear except those created by his own family. Starring Devon Bagby, Liev Schreiber, Paula Malcomson, and Kerris Dorsey

Another show that has slipped past me. I have heard OK things, but nothing that stands out. I would try and find it somewhere first to determine if this show is right for you. There are no special features included.
