‘The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1’ District Propos Posters from The Capitol

'The Hunger Games Mockingjay – Part 1' District Propos Posters from The Capitol

The marketing team for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 is taking a rather interesting route in promoting the third film of this beloved series. Instead of highlighting the main characters, the studio has released seven posters as if they were distributed by The Capitol. Check out the distinct District posters after the break.

This move to celebrate each District is a big departure from highlighting Katniss and Peeta. It gives the world of The Hunger Games more depth in a way we haven’t really seen thus far in the movies. The way things ended in Catching Fire and the direction the third book takes, this is a very unique and inventive way to promote Mockingjay – Part 1A big part of Mockingjay is the use of propaganda, or propos, and these are the perfect way to set the tone of the third film.

As a book reader, I understand what “The Capitol” is trying to promote and the meaning behind the messaging, but will this lose non-fans who have not read the books? The posters are very well-done, beautiful and creative, but context is lost for any mainstream audiences. They’re great, don’t get me wrong, but these are posters come across more as viral marketing elements rather than your traditional campaign. And I applaud the bravery of this decision.

Among each of the posters, there is a special message from The Capitol that goes something like this:

The Capitol celebrates the spirit and camaraderie of the assiduous Livestock District. We honor the everyday heroes of District 10 as they breed the finest meat, shear the softest wool, and embrace the shining Capitol sun in their ongoing endeavors.

Work as one to become shining examples of greatness we know this country is capable of producing. Work as one to become the model citizens we know this country has raised. Work as one to ratify the solidarity within our system.

The Capitol Ministry of Information asks you to look to the strapping Felix Stam in this model of diligence, and to remember the ardent efforts of your fellow men. We are forever grateful to the citizens who make countless contributions to society. Join the Capitol in strengthening the bond between the Districts.

You can read the rest of the poster descriptions on the District Heroes page of The Capitol.
