First Trailer for ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ Came on the Internet Today (74 Screenshots)

First Fifty Shades of Grey Movie Trailer

We were teased by Beyoncé this past Saturday, and now the first official trailer for Fifty Shades of Grey has penetrated the Internet. The Sam Taylor-Johnson adaptation of one of the most sought after book series of our time will now be on the top of everyone’s most anticipated movies of 2015 lists after this trailer. Take a look after the break.

What better place to release the trailer for Fifty Shades of Grey than within the dirtiness of the Internet? There is so much shame and skin on the Internet that it fits right in. Hell, the Twilight fanfiction was born on the Internet on a messageboard.

Shades of Lars von Trier’s Nymphomaniac is definitely littered throughout the teaser. I’m actually surprised by the tone and the cinematography here. Fifty Shades looks very particular and clean, yet feels very dirty and taboo. I think Taylor-Johnson sets up a good amount of tension to really hype up fans of the books. But will there be an audience or would fans rather enjoy the risque nature of the content in the comfort of their own home?

Focus Features were able to show quite a lot of skin and suggestive visuals; the real question here is on the movie’s rating. Will it be R or NC-17? Or could it even be PG-13? Crazier things have happened. This is a pretty big property and to cut out a large demographic with an adult rating would limit box office ticket sales. They could easily edit out scenes to dance around the ratings, or fade to black when the heat turns up. But that would definitely kill the expectations of what people are looking for in this movie. I’m calling it now, they’ll get an R rating.

I have not read Fifty Shades of Grey, but from what I can tell, based on a plot synopsis, that this trailer captures the story accurately. I think Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan work well together. As a teaser, this trailer works perfectly.
