Welcome to your Netflix Streaming Report for September 4, 2014. After the long week you deserve a relaxing staycation with a bowl of popcorn, a bucket of ice cream, and only your Netflix queue to judge you. This past week, Netflix Watch Instant has been kind enough to supply us with Spaceballs, Californication, The League, Once Upon a Time, The Addams Family, and more, which you’ll find after the break.
The Addams Family (Barry Sonnenfeld) Con artists plan to fleece the eccentric family using an accomplice who claims to be their long lost Uncle Fester. Starring Anjelica Huston, Raul Julia, and Christopher Lloyd
One of the best dark comedies of the early ’90s based on the single panel cartoon in a 1938 issue of The New Yorker. You really can’t get more dedication from a cast of kooky characters than this. I hope the theme song is stuck in your head now! Grab an eskimo brother and enjoy! (Watch it now)
The League (Season 5) (Jackie Marcus Schaffer and Jeff Schaffer) Semi-scripted comedy about a fantasy football league. Starring Mark Duplass, Nick Kroll, Jonathan Lajoie, Stephen Rannazzisi, Paul Scheer, and Katie Aselton
One of the best under appreciated comedies of our time. Now cast onto FXX, The League continues to remain strong and present our favorite sociopaths in the most bizarre hijinks about fantasy football ever. (Watch it now)
Once Upon a Time (Season 3) (Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz) A woman with a troubled past is drawn to a New England town where fairy tales are to be believed. Starring Ginnifer Goodwin, Jennifer Morrison, and Lana Parrilla
I haven’t seen this show, but I would like to at some point. The fourth season comes out this fall with the debut of the characters from Frozen. Should be an interesting crossover or a ratings grab. (Watch it now)
Spaceballs (Mel Brooks) Planet Spaceball’s President Skroob sends Lord Dark Helmet to steal Planet Druidia’s abundant supply of air to replenish their own, and only Lone Starr can stop them. Starring Mel Brooks, John Candy, Rick Moranis, Bill Pullman, Daphne Zinga, and Dick Van Patten
Still considered one of the best satirical films ever, Mel Brooks nails this one out of the park. For fans of Star Wars and those who are not, need to revisit this classic. And if you haven’t, you need to get on it. “Yogurt! Yogurt! I hate Yogurt! Even with Strawberries.” (Watch it now)
Jerry Maguire (Cameron Crowe) When a sports agent has a moral epiphany and is fired for expressing it, he decides to put his new philosophy to the test as an independent with the only athlete who stays with him. Starring Tom Cruise, Cuba Gooding Jr., Renée Zellweger, Jonathan Lipnicki, and Jerry O’Connell
For the ladies out there, this is a great romantic comedy that even your man will enjoy. (Watch it now)
Cool Runnings (Jon Turteltaub) Based on the true story of the first Jamaican bobsled team trying to make it to the winter Olympics. Starring John Candy, Leon, Doug E. Doug, Rawle D. Lewis, and Malik Yoba
“Feel the rhythm! Feel the rhyme! Get on up, its bobsled time! Cool Runnings!” (Watch it now)
