We’ve seen plenty of the teaser trailers for American Horror Story: Freak Show, building the eerie factor for things to come. And now FX has released a full trailer, chocked full of freaky goodness. We are privy to a wide range of the characters in action. You can watch it after the break.
I don’t know if it’s me, but I remember a show earlier in the aughts about superheroes that wound up at a carnival for their fourth season, and it didn’t end well for them. The show I speak of got cancelled without a series finale; that show was Heroes. And as much as the circus preys on the bizarre and deranged, I think a horror inspired show works a little better than one that focuses on people with special abilities.
For one thing, clowns, and another carnivals are just creepy in general. Austin Powers nailed it, carnis have small hands. But this Freak Show trailer gives us a smorgasbord of its sideshows that amp up the weird. I think this season will truly speak to Ryan Murphy’s character as a showrunner and could be one of his best seasons of television ever.
My favorite look out of the bunch is Effel Darling the bearded lady (Kathy Bates), with Bette and Dot Tattler the two-headed woman (Sarah Paulson) a close second. The others characters we see in the trailer are Elsa Mars (Jessica Lange), the ringleader; Jimmy Darling (Evan Peters), Effel’s son who appears to have webbed hands; Desiree Dupree, the three-breasted woman (Angela Bassett); Wendell del Tolito, the strongman (Michael Chiklis); and the world’s smallest woman (Jyoti Amge).
