Despite its delayed release, the Wachowski’s long-awaited Jupiter Ascending will see the light of day come February 6, 2015. A new trailer has surfaced from Warner Bros., delving deep within the story’s bigger ideas of reincarnation, an alien dynasty, human farming, and political assassination. There’s a lot going on in this third trailer, and you can dive right into it after the break.
It’s funny that this trailer opens up with Mila Kunis asking Sean Bean’s character what people will do once they find out the truth. In one respect, the clip is asking us to believe that the truths revealed about the existence of alien life will be unfathomable for our little Earth brains. But on the other hand, I find this particularly funny because I see this quote as a way to ask audiences how floored they’ll be when they find out whether or not this will be a terrible film.
With that said, I guess my faith in Jupiter Ascending kind of shows its true form. I did like Cloud Atlas more than most, but Speed Racer and the second and third Matrix films are pretty subpar. The visual effects look OK, but nothing stands out to me like anything is solely original from any other sci-fi action romp. And to top it all off, everything is wrapped around the very political on goings of this alien dynasty. If they can nail that without being overly convoluted and make it seem interesting, then you can tickle me impressed.
