Welcome to your Netflix Streaming Report for November 27, 2014. After the long week you deserve a relaxing staycation with a bowl of popcorn, a bucket of ice cream, and only your Netflix queue to judge you. This past week, Netflix Watch Instant has been kind enough to supply us with Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD, Happy Christmas, Nikita, and more, which you’ll find after the break.
Agents of SHIELD (Season 1) (Joss Whedon, Jed Whedonm and Maurissa Tancharoen) The missions of the Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division. Starring Clark Gregg, Ming-Na Wen, Brett Dalton, Chloe Bennet, Iain De Caestecker, and Elizabeth Henstridge
For those invested in what Marvel Studios has planned for its cinematic universe, you might want to take time to watch Agents of SHIELD. It’s slow off the gate, but once it gets its groove and integrates more of the MCU it really gets going. The characters are not the strongest, but what the show is doing is quite ambitious. And from with what’s been planned for Phase 3 of the Marvel Studios’ movie world, Agents of SHIELD is definitely something you’ll want to log some hours in. (Watch it now)
Happy Christmas (Joe Swanberg) Rated R [82 min] – After a break up, Jenny moves in with writer Kelly, her filmmaker husband, and their child. Despite a rocky start, Jenny’s influence helps Kelly realize that an evolution in her life, career and relationship is necessary for her happiness. Starring Anna Kendrick, Melanie Lynskey, and Mark Webber
A unique slice of life movie. It’s rare to find a story that is quite intimate and resonating and yet so simple. Swanberg does a great job creating yet another mumblecore film that takes care of its characters. They feel lived in. Happy Christmas is not a film for those who seek a three act structure with a sound narrative. It’s worth taking a stab at though. (Watch it now)
Nikita (Season 4) (Joel Surnow) A rogue assassin returns to take down the secret organization that trained her. Starring Maggie Q, Shane West, and Lyndsy Fonseca
The final season of Nikita. Lyndsey Fonseca will be heading to the Marvel world in Agents of Carter soon though! (Watch it now)
Lilyhammer Season 3 (Eilif Skodvin and Anne Bjørnstad) [45 min] A New York mobster goes into hiding in rural Lillehammer in Norway after testifying against his former associates. Starring Steven Van Zandt, Trond Fausa, and Steinar Sagen
I’ve never seen this, but there must be something there if it’s gotten to a third season. (Watch it now)
