On the final day at Jump Festa 2105, during the Food Wars: Shokugeki no Soma Super Stage event, a new trailer was revealed along with the announcement of new characters, the voice actors, and the bands who will be performing the opening and end credit theme songs for the anime series. For anyone who loves food, this wacky shōnen series will absolutely take the cake. Check out the trailer after the break.

Now there are some bizarre anime series out there, but I think Shokugeki no Soma is pretty tame as far as most are concerned. The energy is off the charts and the premise of the series is really intriguing. It’s not quite as extreme as Kill la Kill, but it definitely has the gusto. I can only assume that a new food challenge will be held within each episode. This basically looks like an intense, anime version of Iron Chef, which makes perfect sense to me.

Narrator: Tōtsuki Culinary Academy. Students who graduate: Under one percent. The palace of cooking that gives birth to new chefs around the world. At this place, there was a certain tradition: Food Wars. Food Wars are a battle in which cooking is both a halberd and a shield.

Soma: Cooking is wasteland in which deliciousness and bad tastes exist dotted throughout infinitely. I’d like to go beyond the horizon of that desert.

Based on the original manga written by Yūto Tsukuda, the series will be directed by Yoshitomo Yonetani (Gaogaigar; Betterman) with ULTRATOWER performing the opening title sequence and Tokyo Karan Koron performing the end credits theme. The main cast roster includes:

On a mission to explore all aspects of the culinary world from the divinely decadent to the unbearably grotesque, Sōma Yukihira’s ultimate goal is to become a chef that can surpass his father. He’s shocked one day when his dad decides to close up the family shop for the next few years and send him to a prestige cooking school in the mean time. However, there is a catch – only less than 10% of the students graduate from this elite institution, and his father says any dream of beating him will be a joke if Sōma can’t succeed.

The series premiere of Food Wars: Shokugeki no Soma will air this April 2015 on Crunchyroll.
