Universal Releases ‘Steve Jobs’ Teaser Trailer Starring Michael Fassbender and Seth Rogen [15 Screenshots]

Universal Pictures has released its first teaser trailer for Steve Jobs, their answer ‘Deep Impact’ to Open Road Films’ Armageddon Jobs starring Ashton Kutcher. This version of the Apple founder’s biopic stars Michael Fassbender as Mr. Jobs. The screenplay was written by Aaron Sorkin (The Social Network; Moneyball) and directed by Danny Boyle (Slumdog Millionaire; 28 Days Later; 127 Hours). There are already clear differences in this short teaser compared to the 2013 film. Watch the Steve Jobs trailer below and the Jobs trailer a bit further.

So first up we have Universal’s new Steve Jobs. I like how every actor looks vastly different and then there’s Jeff Daniels being Jeff Daniels. It’s kind of hard to mask Fassbender’s succinct accent, but he definitely nails the look of Jobs with that black turtleneck. I know he’ll crush it as he typically does. However, I’m more interested in what Seth Rogen can bring to the table; here he plays Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak. Rogen’s buddy Jonah Hill has amassed two Oscar nominations that began with a screenplay from Mr. Sorkin, and with Danny Boyle’s direction could we see the same happen for Rogen?

The 2013 Jobs film never claims to be based on Walter Isaacson’s best-selling biography of the Apple founder whereas this feature does. Ashston Kutcher did OK work in the film and Josh Gad played Wozniak. The film is passable, but it isn’t told in any captivating way. For your scientific analysis, here’s the first trailer for Open Road’s Jobs starring Ashton Kutcher:

It’s much more targeted for a younger audience with it’s trendy music and colorful palette. From this teaser, Steve Jobs I find would appeal to a more sophisticated audience based on the vibes I’m getting from it. Boyle and Sorkin are two powerhouses that can easily pull off some big Academy attention with Fassbender leading the charge. This trailer has a tone comparable to The Social Network (written by Sorkin and directed by David Fincher), a film that in my opinion should have overtaken The King’s Speech for Best Picture back in 2011. What do you think? Can this hit the ground running early this awards season or stumble like the first Jobs movie?
