Netflix Streaming Report: Young and Hungry, [REC] 4: Apocalypse, and More

REC 4 Apocalypse Netflix Horror

Welcome to your Netflix Streaming Report for May 21, 2015. After the long week you deserve a relaxing staycation with a bowl of popcorn, a bucket of ice cream, and only your Netflix queue to judge you. This past week, Netflix Watch Instant has been kind enough to supply us with Young and Hungry (Season 1), [REC] 4: Apocalypse, and more, which you can find after the jump.

It’s kind of slim pickens this week, but June is right around the corner with more new titles to come.

Young & Hungry (Season 1) (David Holden) Unrated [22 min] – A well-off young tech entrepreneur hires a feisty young food blogger to be his personal chef. Starring Emily Osment, Jonathan Sadowski, Aimee Carrero, Kym Whitley, Rex Lee, and Jesse McCartney

If cheesy sitcoms with laugh tracks like Two Broke Girls or Whitney is something you fancy, ABC Family’s Young & Hungry will sit right with you. Haley Joel Osment’s little sister Emily plays Gabi, a character based on the real life food blogger Gabi Moskowitz from BrokeassGourmet.com. Looking past the cornball jokes and the many varying degrees of sexual innuendos, I find this series to be tolerable thanks in part to its premise. It’s refreshingly different, and it’s about food. Sometimes the acting can be a bit over the top, but there is a unique heart that ABC Family always captures in its shows.

[REC] 4: Apocalypse (Jaume Balagueró) Rated R [96 min] – The television reporter Ángela is rescued from the building and taken to an oil tanker to be examined. However, it is unbeknown to the soldiers that she carries the seed of the mysterious demonic virus. Starring Manuela Velasco, Paco Manzanedo, Héctor Colomé, and Ismael Fritschi

I wanted to watch this last night, but life happened. The first two [REC]’s I am very much a fan of, but the third is pretty unbearable and breaks away from its found footage format randomly after the first act. This movie looks like it’s completely doing away with found footage all together, which I’m OK with, and they bring back our original heroine Angela! I’m looking forward to seeing how this series concludes and whether or not it can end on a high note.
