Mad Men the final season part 2 don draper crying

Television Series

Mad Men: The Final Season – Part 2 (Matthew Weiner) A drama about one of New York’s most prestigious ad agencies at the beginning of the 1960s, focusing on one of the firm’s most mysterious but extremely talented ad executives, Donald Draper. Starring Jon Hamm, Elisabeth Moss, Vincent Kartheiser, January Jones, John Slattery, and Christina Hendricks

Mad Men is at the very top of the mountain during this golden age of television. It’s hard to believe that a series about 1960s advertising could be so compelling, beautifully written, incredibly acted, and nearly perfect. This. All of this. Everything about it. And then some.

Ascension: A TV Mini-Series (Philip Levens and Adrian A. Cruz) Rated TV-MA [60 min] – A young woman’s murder causes the subjects of a century-long mission to populate a new world to question the true nature of the project as they approach the point of no return. Starring Tricia Helfer, Gil Bellows, and Brian Van Holt

All the right ingredients are here for Ascension to be a triumphant television miniseries, but its characters are too boring and unrelatable to care about their outcome. The plot and mystery surrounding the crew of Ascension is pretty unique, but the drama of it all is wildly soapy and melodramatic. For a concept that reeks of potential there’s no fun to be had throughout this entire miniseries.

Special features include:

  • Ascension: A Behind the Scenes Look” featurette

The Following: The Complete Third and Final Season (Kevin Williamson) Rated TV-14 [43 min] – A brilliant and charismatic, yet psychotic serial killer communicates with other active serial killers and activates a cult of believers following his every command. Starring Kevin Bacon, James Purefoy, and Shawn Ashmore

The final season of the Kevin Bacon crime drama gains a little bit of its confidence back but still lacks the conviction to dream bigger. Looking at the series as a whole, The Following has a lot of promise, but there’s little reward in the intended dark path it takes us on. The Following falls short and provides only lackluster entertainment in a time when there’s too many better shows on right now.

Special Features:

  • When Heroes Lie
  • Evil Has Many Faces
  • Ryan and Romance
  • The Art of the Crime Scene
  • The Following: Funny AND Die
  • Severed Scenes
  • Gag Reel
  • 2014 New York Comic-Con Panel

The house and hotel both come with secrets of their own as does the new town which the Bates’ now call home. Starring Vera Farmiga, Freddie Highmore, and Max Thieriot

I haven’t seen a single episode of this series, nor did I receive a screener for this series. I hear great things and I’ll try to get to it one of these days.

Special features include:

  • Deleted Scenes
  • A Broken Psyche: Creating Norma-n

The 100 (Season 2) (Jason Rothenberg) Set 97 years after a nuclear war has destroyed civilization, when a spaceship housing humanity’s lone survivors sends 100 juvenile delinquents back to Earth in hopes of possibly re-populating the planet. Starring Eliza Taylor, Eli Goree, and Thomas McDonell

I haven’t seen a single episode of this series, nor did I receive a screener for this series. There’s a certain appeal that draws me to the show, but not enough to make me leap onto Netflix to binge it right away.
