And in a blink of an eye, the 2016 SAG Award winners were announced in just a mere two hours; far shorter than the other major televised award shows. With the SAG Award nominees kicking off this year’s award season in December, along with the controversial #OscarsSoWhite campaign, I’m sure many would be tuning in to see who would win an Actor. But keep in mind, the SAG Award ballots were mailed in before the Academy Award nominee voting even opened.

For those seeking a celebration of diversity in Hollywood, the members of the Screen Actors Guild delivered. Idris Elba won two awards this evening in both film (Beasts of No Nation) and television (Luther) categories; the cast of Orange is the New Black took home the award for best ensemble in comedy series for the second year in a row; both Queen Latifah and Viola Davis won their third Actor; and Uzo Aduba won her second Actor for an individual role for Orange is the New Black.

Spotlight‘s win for Best Ensemble definitely adds fuel to the fire for it to win Best Picture against the likes of The Revenant. And of course, Brie Larson winning Best Actress, Alicia Vikander winning for Best Supporting Actress, and Leonardo DiCaprio winning Best Actor, make solid cases for their Oscar campaigns. This is also Leo’s first win out of the nine times he has been nominated. The Oscar race for Best Supporting Actor will be interesting to watch as Idris Elba was not nominated, but won the SAG Award tonight.
