Oscar Best Actress Winner Brie Larson CAPTAIN MARVEL Frontrunner

Exciting times are afoot for Marvel fans looking for a little more estrogen on the big screen. With so few women heroes in the sandbox of the Marvel Cinematic Universe we’re edging ever closer to Carol Danvers coming to the big screen. According to Variety, Academy Award-winning actress for Room, Brie Larson, is said to be the frontrunner to play the titular character in Marvel Studios’ Captain Marvel.

Sources close to the outlet say that the actress is in early negotiations, but they can confirm Larosn is the top choice for the role as they near closer to the release July 6, 2018 that was announced back in 2014. There has been no official statement from Marvel Studios to confirm or deny.

Kevin Feige, of course, is producing the film, but there currently is no director signed on to helm the project. The introduction to Danvers has always been expected to make her debut in another hero’s story prior movie before her own feature. However, the writer of Inside Out, Meg LeFauve along with Nicole Perlman (Guardians of the Galaxy) are actively working on the script.

Those unfamiliar with the character, Carol Danvers is an air force pilot who encountered a Kree alien named Captain Mar-Vell. After an unfortunate accident, her DNA fuses with Mar-Vell’s and she gains his powers of flight, super strength, and energy projection. Thereafter she becomes Ms. Marvel who dones the traditional black leotard with a golden lightning bolt many may be familiar with. She later dons the title of Captain Marvel later in the comics.

Brie Lasron has slew of moving pictures she will be featured in the next year. Audiences can see her in the upcoming Kong: Skull Island, directed by Kings of Summer director Jordan Vogt-Roberts, set to release next spring. And she can also be found in Free Fire alongside Armie Hammer (The Social Network; The Lone Ranger), directed by Ben Wheatley (High-Rise).

I always had a wild idea that It Follows star Maika Monroe could play Carol Danvers. But hey, I love me some Brie Larson. Who do you think should play Carol Danvers?
