Everyone’s favorite drama about a group of dead people fighting off zombies in a post-apocalyptic world is returning October 14 at 9pm ET/PT on AMC. That’s right folks, The Walking Dead season 3 will begin in less than a month. With the looming backdrop of the prison at the end of season 2, fans of the comics knew that it was time for the Governor, one of the most wretched, revered, and celebrated villains to have ever been written – not just in comics, but of all time. What else can you look forward to? Find out after the break!
Fans hungry for more zombie operawill be given an additional three more episodes than the second season’s 13-episode run. This fall will air the first eight, one-hour episodes and then The Walking Deadwillreturn in February 2013 to finish off the remaining eight.

Many who watch the show and may not know who that sword wielding figure is at the end of season two or why the prison got so many fanboys/girls’ wet with excitement. And that’s OK. All you need to know is that you are about to be introduced to one of the most grueling tales of survival horror you will ever encounter – that’s if Robert Kirkman stays true to the tone. He has already stated that he likes to stray away from the source material to keep fans of the comics guessing, which I enjoy. Only time will tell if he will go full force with what lies ahead.
Because of this, a lot of the characters have had different arcs than in the comics. There is no Merle (Michael Rooker returns after his season one debut) or Daryl in the comics, so their story should be interesting to see what happens if they find out each other. Will Michonne, the sword wielding zombie herder, played by Danai Gurira, be as dark and mysterious as she is in the comic? Can the Governor, played by David Morrisssey, keep true to his sadistic nature?

I’m excited to see where we’ll go in the prison, who we will meet, what different story arcs will we encounter, and how dark this season will go. With the Governor and the Prison, also comes Woodbury, the town the Governor runs. They need to get the feel of the survivors right that live in the town. This is the first civilization the survivors encounter and it’s important to get the atmosphere and the emotional weight of the residents who live in Woodbury.
There is a lot riding on this season. If Kirkman cannot deliver the goods, I fear that he will lost a lot of his comic fan base. A lot happens inside the walls of the prison, monumental moments that can make or break this show. And I hope to flying spaghetti monster they don’t go to over the top dramatic with the vengeance aspect of Merle versus Rick. It was just a misunderstand, that’s all…
Here is The Walking Dead season 3 plot synopsis:
In this uncertain world, Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and his band of survivors must not only fight the dead, but also face a whole new fear: the living. Rick and his fellow survivors continue to seek refuge in a desolate and post-apocalyptic world and soon discover that there are greater forces to fear than just the walking dead. The struggle to survive has never been so perilous. Season 3 also introduces new characters, including the Governor and fan-favorite Michonne, along with her zombie pets.
Following “The Walking Dead” season premiere will be the second season debut of AMC’s live after show Talking Dead at 11pm ET/PT, hosted by Chris Hardwick. For those who don’t know, Talking Dead features Hardwick spending time with fans, actors, producers and TV enthusiasts, recapping that most recent TWD episode, providing sneak-peeks and discussion of upcoming episodes and taking questions and comments from viewers.
One of the real question is, as hugely successful this show is, will Dish Network submit and bring AMC back to their subscribers? Dish has been without AMC since this past summer, and while AMC has held numerous marketing campaigns to urge the cable provider to bring back the channel, Dish has stood its ground. AMC seems to have switched direction, and as of late, have been telling fans of The Walking Dead specifically to switch cable providers if they want to see the show this fall. Who will win this outrageous bought?
Based on the comic book series written by Robert Kirkman and published by Image Comics, “The Walking Dead” stars Lincoln, Sarah Wayne Callies, Laurie Holden, Steven Yeun, Norman Reedus, Chandler Riggs, Lauren Cohan, Scott Wilson, Iron E. Singleton, Melissa McBride, Morrissey and Gurira.
The Walking Dead lurks back onto AMC with season 3 premiering Sunday, October 14, 2012 at 9pm ET/PT.
