In no way, shape or form, should I have to remind you that the Joss Whedon produced film, The Cabin in the Woods, is unleashing onto DVD and Blu-ray this week on September 18. This is more of a friendly reminder of what you can expect to receive when you pick up your copy, because YOU ARE going to buy this movie to add to your collection. As one of the most unique, unsuspecting horror, action, comedies of the year, The Cabin in the Woods is the MUST OWN film of the year.
What is that you say, you’ve never seen The Cabin in the Woods? FOR SHAME! That’s like accepting that you have a red-headed stepchild. If you have never seen this film, go out and buy it anyways. You honestly cannot go wrong. This film plays with your expectations and brings one of the best climaxes of cinema ever.
Be forewarned, DO NOT WATCH THE TRAILER BEFORE YOU SEE THIS MOVIE. The trailer gives away some pretty medium spoilers. It won’t ruin the whole movie, but it’s not something you want to see if you want to keep the suspense in your life. If you have to watch the trailer stop after the first 6o seconds.
The Cabin in the Woods is co-written and produced by Joss Whedon and co-written and directed by Drew Goddard. You may know Whedon as the showrunner for a little show called Buffy the Vampire Slayer and the director of The Avengers – no big deal or anything. Goddard is best known for his writing, which can be found in various episodes of, oh I don’t know, Lost, Alias, Angel, and Buffy; he’s also known for writing Cloverfield too.
If you’re looking for a fantastically awesome film for you and your friends to enjoy, pick this up immediately. You won’t regret it. Take a gander at the plot synopsis brought to you by Lionsgate:
A rambunctious group of five college friends steal away for a weekend of debauchery in an isolated country cabin, only to be attacked by horrific supernatural creatures in a night of endless terror and bloodshed. Sound familiar? Just wait. As the teens begin to exhibit standard horror movie behavior, a group of technicians in a control room are scrutinizing, and sometimes even controlling, every move the terrified kids make. With their efforts continually thwarted by the all-powerful eye in the sky, do they have any chance of escape?
When you buy this film, you can expect to get a lot back in return. So what will your purchase add up to when you buy the DVD/Blu-Ray release of this film?
