All of the pretty faces of Hollywood gathered together to celebrate each others work for the 19th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards. This deep into awards season many of the picks for the Oscars are pretty much determined. But this year, between the Golden Globes, Critics’ Choice, and now the SAG Awards, some of the categories have become very unpredictable. Check out the complete winners list after the jump.
The SAG Awards do not harbor any sort of personality when it comes to awards shows. They are not all youthful like the Critics’ Choice. They aren’t silly like the Globes. But the SAG Awards feel more straight to the point and down to business. Perhaps that’s why we need directors to guide these actors into something more entertaining.
All of the speeches were very similar, giving credit to their fellow nominees and thanking their family and producers. But it was Jennifer Lawrence again who not only came away with an upset, but of course delivered another grand speech. I believe her youth and unpredictable acceptance speeches that have continued to bring her on stage – that or Harvey Weinstein. It is now down to the wire between Chastain and Lawrence for Best Actress, this will be interesting to see who will take the Oscar. Also, with the ensemble cast going to Argo, it is becoming more likely it will win Best Picture.
Speaking of upsets, the cast of Downton Abbey along with everyone else was completely baffled that they won Best Ensemble Cast. Bryan Cranston also nabbed a big upset over Homeland‘s Damian Lewis who has been sweeping the awards lately. Sadly Jon Hamm was left in the cold again, who has never won the Actor for Don Draper. The worst part about sitting through TV awards is that we see the same nominees every year. So long 30 Rock and The Office!
Peter Breck, Larry Hagman, Whitney Houston, Gary Collins, Jack Klugman, Conrad Bain, Chad Everett, Celeste Holme, Sherman Hemsley, James Farentino, Tony Epper, Michael Clark Duncan, Russell Means, Warren Stevens, Davy Jones, Phyllis Diller, Dick Clark, Andy Griffith, Ernest Borgnine, and more are memorialized as those who have recently passed.
